I'm going to build a load for a 7-08 for long range shooting (up to 1000 m) and I was wondering what anyone has had sucess with in regards to type of powder and type of bullets. I have a 1 in 9 twist.
Thanks
Ron

Win 760 and mag primers work well with 139-140 gr bullets. If you do a search there is another thread on the bullets and powder for the 7mm-08

My 7mm-08 does very, very well with IMR 4064 and 120 & 140 grain bullets.
Near-max loads from Sierra manual.
Pushing 2925 fps with the 140's and consistantly groups under 3/4" @ 100 meters.
Seated just off the lands (maybe .005")

I could not get 168 Sierra or Berger to group as well as I could get 150's with a 9" twist.Doubt I would have any luck with 180's.

I got 150's to do well for my hunting(Swift SC II) and target bullets(SMK's) and left it at that, I would have liked the heavier stuff to work but it just didn't do it. Maybe it will work for someone else.

9 1/4" twist will stabilize bullets up to 180 gr VLD. To get them out to 1000m in a 7mm08 requires lots of vertical!

I have mine set up with lapua 308 brass, cci br primers, 47.5gr Win 760 under the 140 berger. They go 2880 out of a 21" Shilen barrel. I have shot several groups of .75 moa at 1150 yards. I know, stange distance but thats how long my shooting spot is.
