So this morning I decided to head down to the range to experiment between Remington and CCI primers. My results were as I expected with the CCI 200 primers yielding a better group.
Here is the loads I tested at 100 yards:
Brass:308 Nosler Brass Necked down
Powder: IMR 4007 SSC
Bullet: 162gr Hornady Match
Primers: CCI 200 and Remington 9 1/2
1 43.5gr powder
2 43.7gr powder
3 44.0gr powder
4 44.3gr powder
The 1st photo shows the Remington Primers and the second photo shows the CCI primers. One thing was very consistent and thats the typical 1st shot being about 1" away from the rest. Load # 1 and 4 with CCI primers yielding the best groups. The big ? is .... in load #4 is that 2 or 3 shots??? im leading and hoping 3 but what do you all think.. These loads will be used just as fun plinking out to 650 yards.
The rifle is a Custom built rifle. 24" Ted Giallard Barrel 1-9" twist, SS Remington 700 action, Pepper Laminate Boyds Gun Stock, Pillar Bedded, and a custom made aluminum Bottom Plate. Its all topped with a Leupold 3-9x40 Canadian VX2 with custom built Turrets. I love this rifle and can shoot much better than i can. I have other loads made up for deer and moose but This load will be used strictly for Plinking..
Thanks all
Josh
