7mm-08 - Pros/Cons heavies

Yes, this is the cat's pajamas for the 7/08.Even stretching out the shot , the heavies loose too much too fast for the 7/08 sized case.

A quality 140 class bullet going 2800-2900 ft/sec is pretty much lethal to anything in this country. The only reason I use 150 is that my bullet choice is only made in 150.

IMO, the sweet spot for 7-08 is the 139/140 group... particularly at the ranges you are talking.

Very good reading here. Shot elk in the front shoulder with 165 accubond in 3006. Fps at muzzle was 2860. Shot was 100-150 yards. I kid you not this bullet separated from the copper/bonded portion. Lost 100 grains and has a hole in what is left of the base. ( you can see through it)

Killed the elk, severely stressed the bullet. But not your ideal looking bullet afterwards. Not the ones you see in their advertisements anyway.

Will post picture when I get time.

Not sure if you can see it in that link.

There you go.

Yes and shed nearly 100 grains. Further inspection of non fired bullet shows an ever so slight ring in bottom of bullet. Never noticed before seeing mine with hole through it. 165 accubond..

Last year with same load the internal bonded core separated completely, but able to recover part of bonded material and copper case. No hole in middle of that one. Recovered in off side ribs after going through lungs.

2860 is speed I'm getting from chrony. Really stumped. Not sure if that load is a proper elk load. If 180s accubonds separate on me for a elk in 3006, I might just go back to the hornady interlocks. They seem to mushroom and stay mostly together.
