7mm-08 Remington

You bet. 150ELDX’s or 150 Nosler Accubond Long Range in the 708 changes the game a bit.
To the OP: The NOSLER and SIERRA online data has the 708 really humpin.
It ends up a LITTLE less drop, damage, kick and barrel life than a 308 Win. GIVER!
But on top of the 280AI at 3100 that 150 ABLR gives stunning performance on small bolt face.
so many new rules to the exception of what bullets used to be growing up vs new bullet tech
I always talk in factory ammo terms cause in reality ill assume a guy is going that route
reloading totally different. but damn those barnes 139lrx 7/08 sure are a wicked load.

I can't imagine not having my 7x57's, but I reload and push the cartridge's limits with the extra case capacity. I also hoard Norma and RWS factory ammo. :) Otherwise, 7mm-08 has identical ballistics and easy to find on the shelves! Both punch above their paper statistics!

For killing deer, it is pretty much "picket fence" - start with parent case 7x57 - so you can get 6 mm Rem, 257 Roberts+P, parent 7 mmx57 and I see there is now a "custom" .30x57. Or start with 308 Win case and keep pressure up - 243 Win, 7 mm-08, parent .308 - about only one that I know of to squeeze in there would be a 6.5 mm bullet with equivalent powder capacity in the case - 260 Rem?. Going to be really difficult to say that one will do what others can not - even harder to argue that any particular one is "head and shoulders" better than it's neighbour. For hunting or killing things. Maybe there are actual differences for target shooting scores - I do not know. Maybe standard bolt action length 2.8" for 308 Win and 3.0" or 3.2" for most 7x57 might matter? Versus 3.4" for 270 Win, 280 Rem, 30-06, 300 Win Mag, and most belted Winchester and similar "short magnums".

Not too much difference between the 6.5 CM and 7mm-08. IMO…two short action peas in a pod, really. Using 140 gr bullets, loads of 41 gr powder gives 2800’/sec. +/-. The 140gr., 6.5 bullet is a little more slippery so effective range might be a bit further.

The 7mm-08 can efficiently use heavier lead bullets up to about 160gr. Much heavier/longer and the bullet starts cutting into powder space. Using heavier available bullets, you could make the assumption that the 7mm-08 might be slightly better for larger game (moose/elk) than the 6.5CM.

The 7mm-08 is my primary hunting cartridge. Found a sweet little Cooper Jackson Hunter at prophet river about 10 years ago. It’s a joy to carry and shoots really well. Weighs in at 7 lbs with scope and shoots sub 3/4 MOA (3 shot groups). I use the 140gr. Nos. BT’s for deer…kills really well to 400+ yds (last one was 450yds…longest kill shot of my life). For bigger game, I switch to 140gr. nos AB’s and usually try to reign the distance in to under 300yds if I can, just to be cautious.

Aside from everything else, the 7mm-08 and 6.5CM have this in common…the low recoil makes them fun to practice with. More practice makes a better marksman.
Another cool one to look into If a guy wants to go custom route and reload is the 7SAW
But at the end of the day its all so close with todays powder and bullets, the deer/elk/moose are probably not going to know the difference.
from what I gather from reading this post is a lot of guys love their .284 rifles, all with good reasons.

Ive shot but never owned a 6.5cm in all honesty probably never will, I like the heavier bullet offerings which suits the 08
However the 6CM I would love to build one day for fun.

Only thing that holds me back when building a new rifle is Factory ammo offerings and stock. Sometimes its just nice to go buy two boxes off the shelf that you know will shoot well, Vs spending the time reloading for it, when you only shoot it a few times a year.

All depends on the guy at the end of the day, Also why I love this forum as we can chat and bicker about it =)
read all the articles a guy wants but end of the day I enjoy everyone's stories and experience as that's the most unbias review.

Cheers! and happy Long weekend to all.
