I have been seeing a few successful moose hunts and the stories and pictures posted here.

Funny thing is a number of these animals have been taken with the totally underpowered and inaccurate 7mm-08.

Wonder what is up with that?;)

lol...totally the truth...my took a 3 yr old cow at 167 yds with a 7mm-08 and my amazingly my daughter took a 6 yr old -700lb cow with a .50cal Muzzle loader with a 245gr barnes bullet and 100 grains of 777 pellets at a Leica ranged 185 yds...dropped her as she stood there looking...and i gave up my 7mm rem mag for a TC Prohunter in 7mm-08...LOVE the calibre and accuracy I get from it...

At anything over short range (200m), handloaded 7mm-08 Rem can be superior to handloaded 308 Win because of the higher BC of 7mm bullets.

As for accuracy, 7mm-08 made its reputation by beating all competing cartridges in metallic silouhette in the 1980s (260 Rem did the same thing more recently in 1990s).

Finally, it's a extremely popular mountain rifle cartridge in Western US.
I almost bought a Remington 7000 CDL SF in 7mm-08 this year but made the "mistake" to buy a 270 WSM one instead and now have to live with high recoil and large muzzle blast!

I witnesses a one-shot cow elk kill with the 7-08 Remington.
Shot with a 140 grain accubond at 440 yards!!
The shot passed through both lungs and the cow did a little pirouette and fell over.
No flies on that 7-08.
Come to think of it, I have killed a number of moose and elk with the very similar 7x57.

Well, if more women and children are hunting and downing moose with 7-08 what does it say about the guys that "need" a big whizz banger to down their quarry?

it doesn't say anything, it makes them a typical hunter aka the vast majority.

Of the 30 or so seasoned lifetime hunters i've hunted with and the other 100 ive shared stories with with I have heard of one .308, one 270wsm, one 303. but around half of them shoot a 30--06 and the remaining use 7mag 300 winny and 338 winmag. because these have been proven reliable a hundred-thousand times over, even with a 16$ box of bullets.

What it says to me is that they are better shots than the seasoned lifetime hunters.:D

you are probably right about that, most hunters around here shoot a 3 inch group at sight in, but i thought we were talking about the caliber not the shooter? which is my point excatly these "whiz bangers" are deadly without being a sharpshooter or loading $50 a box ammo
