7mm-08, What's the big deal?

The 7-08 seems like neat cartridge. I would never trade my .308 for it but I would I would consider adding one to the collection.;)

I thank you for the input fellas. So I see there isn't much diff from a .308, which I already own. so how can I explain the urge to have one of these
7-08's? Damn guns, they'll bankrupt me yet.

For me its a great choice for my 12 years old. Same range as my .308 with much less chance of teaching him how to flinch.

then you have a perfect reason to buy a 223 or 22-250 or a 222.

Let him get used to a little recoil and noise first then grab 7-08. I think most first timers are more afraid of the noise than the recoil.

let him use earmuffs or ear plugs every time.

Yep,

Hoping to have a .223 or a .222 in the stable in the next month or so

He had a hoot with the .30.30 so when he's ready, I figure a 7 odd 8 shouldn't be too big a jump.

One thing to look at is how much powder it burns. compare it to a 7mm Mag for down range energy, velocity, and trajectory.

Would I still buy a 7 mag. yup. why? Cause I'm a canadian gunnut:dancingbanana: The 7 mag will push heavier bullets better.;)

don't know about difference in recoil
if I closed my eyes and shot my brother 7mm08 then shot my 308, I doubt I could tell the difference.
the 308 is abetter choice IMO if you are thinking of maybe using it on moose as well
Myself if I was looking at both cartrdges, I would pick whichever rifle i liked better
