7mm Backcountry “Dialed-In”:
The short story: Legit, as-advertised, and very impressive.
The long story: Thanks for my friend Don Lynum who sent us some of the Federal 175 Fusion tipped ammo, we were able to “Dial-In” this Fierce Twisted Rogue 7BC with a 20” deep spiral fluted barrel and sporting a Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16x44 rifle scope. Coming in at 7lbs 13oz, it’s a light and compact rig suitable for any application.
This rifle is also one of the Wild Sheep Society of BC’s 2025 Magnificent Seven Rifle Raffle lineup, with tickets going on sale this coming April.
Anyhow, more about the rifle. The first measured 5 shot group had an average velo of 3034 fps out of the Rogue’s 20” barrel, which was FASTER than the velo on the box (2975), which is a refreshing change.
The rifle shot a live sub .5 moa 3-shot group, very similar to the factory target.
The biggest surprise was the recoil, or lack thereof. Three of us shot the rifle, and all three agreed that the recoil is notably light - lighter in fact than any other 7mm given a similar barrel length and weight. There is no free lunch with physics, and I was expecting an increase in recoil commensurate to the increase in case pressure, but that is simply not the case…pun intended. The peak alloy case design is delivering the promised velo, with less recoil. Which is remarkable.
All three of us held, not regained, but held sight-picture when smashing the gongs at 540 yards. And with a 175 grain projectile travelling at 3034 fps the report and movement of the gongs was significant.
Exciting to see something that delivers the hype. Looking forward to more rifles and pallets of ammo to feed them!
