7mm Backcountry “Dialed-In”:

The short story: Legit, as-advertised, and very impressive.

The long story: Thanks for my friend Don Lynum who sent us some of the Federal 175 Fusion tipped ammo, we were able to “Dial-In” this Fierce Twisted Rogue 7BC with a 20” deep spiral fluted barrel and sporting a Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16x44 rifle scope. Coming in at 7lbs 13oz, it’s a light and compact rig suitable for any application.

This rifle is also one of the Wild Sheep Society of BC’s 2025 Magnificent Seven Rifle Raffle lineup, with tickets going on sale this coming April.

Anyhow, more about the rifle. The first measured 5 shot group had an average velo of 3034 fps out of the Rogue’s 20” barrel, which was FASTER than the velo on the box (2975), which is a refreshing change.

The rifle shot a live sub .5 moa 3-shot group, very similar to the factory target.

The biggest surprise was the recoil, or lack thereof. Three of us shot the rifle, and all three agreed that the recoil is notably light - lighter in fact than any other 7mm given a similar barrel length and weight. There is no free lunch with physics, and I was expecting an increase in recoil commensurate to the increase in case pressure, but that is simply not the case…pun intended. The peak alloy case design is delivering the promised velo, with less recoil. Which is remarkable.

All three of us held, not regained, but held sight-picture when smashing the gongs at 540 yards. And with a 175 grain projectile travelling at 3034 fps the report and movement of the gongs was significant.

Exciting to see something that delivers the hype. Looking forward to more rifles and pallets of ammo to feed them!

I've wondered if the higher operating pressure would make muzzle brakes more effective. Did you shoot the rifle with a brake, and if so how was the noise?

Either way Thank You for the report! I'm very curious about where this may lead.

Definetly looking forward to seeing what this brings. I think allot of people will benefit from the platform and it should do great things.

Appreciate the feedback and report on how it went! looking forward to seeing Don's testing as well once he finishes his build.

I have a feeling you will be selling allot of these rifles!

It's always interesting to see how something new will be received, the 7BC certainly is cutting edge, I can't say there will be one in my stable any time soon but it is interesting, my 7 PRC does everything I need I get 2990 out of 175gr without pushing it hard so it's right there with the 7BC

When are you guys getting more in? I was kinda disappointed when I found out you had a pallet load but there was no notification you were even getting them so I could pre-order one.

This is very good to hear. I am very excited about what this round and alloy case may mean for future development of existing ammo.
Even on the reloading front. how many reloads. Possible new annealing techniques with it being steel (heat and slow cool). could this mean a .308 could perform like a .300WM. I've got a lot of 7 saum to chew up but this does make the future look bright.

The Twisted Rogue comes with a 4-baffle side-port brake. We only shot it with the brake, but will definitely try without in the future. The side-port brakes are LOUD af...but make for nice shooting =)

Can hardly get any 7mm prc... one will be lucky to find even a single box of backcountry looking coast to coast... will be impossible
Yes, ammo availability will determine the via

We have a lot of 7BC rifles on order in every model. That being said, the current tariff situation has put a halt on all imports of designated US origin products, which impacts Fierce Firearms, and Federal ammunition... =(

My 7 SAUM has been giving me the side-eye since the weekend...

I think its interesting how a ‘06 size case makes magnum speed and everyone jumps to a 308 case making magnum speed. It wont. You will need a 30 Backcountry at ‘06 size to do that. A 308 case would finally be able to keep up to a 30-06.

Its all good though and will be interesting to see what happens. I think it will depend heavily on sales.

On a recent Ron Spomer podcast there was some speculative talk that perhaps newer cartridges could make use of similar metal cases, 6.5 PRC, Creedmoor etc., as they are all modern guns that can likely handle higher pressure. Interesting to chew on. Personally I'm not interested in anything that requires a brake, my ears are too damaged for that anymore, even with HP.
