Thinking about another stainless west coast rifle, but it's got to be stamped 7mm Express Remington on the barrel, for 2 reasons, nostalgia and because it's a conversation starter, lots of guys haven't got a clue what it was/is or why it is no more.....

It is easy to mark a barrel with anything you want...

if you really want to confuse people mark it 7mm-06 Remington... a few of those got out before the 7mm Express marking.

yankees didn't like the metric name, had no idea what the heck it was, remington changed the the name to 280 rem and they rifles flew off the shelf, they are one of the same, and my stash of brass has the headstamp 7mm exp......now I need an old winchester to chamber it in

That’s a stretch.

Ruger couldn’t decide what to call it.

If you're after nostalgia, the cartridge was called the .280 Remington before Remington decided to change it to 7mm Express, in hopes of cashing in on the popularity of their metric named cartridges, then due to concerns over confusion with the 7mm Magnum, changed it back. I went with the .280 Ackley, which sounds cooler, looks cooler, and works better. 7X64 Brenneke has a nice ring, its been around since 1912 which takes care of the nostalgia part, even if the two rounds aren't interchangeable.

And probably have a scout scope awnn'er........huh?

I don't have a rifle marked 7 m/m express but I have a die set by RCBS marked 7m/m express. Decent round but too similar to 270 and 30/06 for me. Occasionally gets shot.

Interesting observation. I recall reading an article by Col. Townsend Whelen in which he proclaimed that the .280 was just a bit better than either the '06 or the .270, but not so much better that is justified switching if you already shot one of them.

7mm bullet selection has come a long way in the last 10 years, it's not just 154 and 178 grain bullets anymore, kicks open a few more doors, and 270 anything just sounds ###, 280 is okay, but 7 express is pure glorious in a weird way
