7mm Rem Mag 180gr Berger VLD

Just picked a box of the 180 berger hunting VLD for my 7mm RM and was just curious if any one else has tried them. My barrel twist is 9.25, but I figured at 7mag velocities it would provide decent stability. Any thoughts on this? What loads have worked for you?

I have used berger VLD's for a few year's in my 300wm for long range hunting here in alberta. They seem to work great on larger animal's such as elk & moose. I was home hunting white tail in NS last Nov hit a 4x4 buck @ 500yard's although it dropped him in his track's there was alot of blood shot meat. But my 2cent's is they are great for long range hunting & shooting. If you contact Walt @bergerbullet.com he or his staff will send you some load reciepe's/ i do find that best grouping is when you seat bullet .010 from land's .......take care & happy trail's

After seeing the results of these bullets in a couple of head of game shot with them, I am absolutely convinced that I will never use them. [my BIL had to try them]
It's alright to conjecture that they are ok for long range shots, but what happens when your animal shows up at 60 yards.
Or what if you are presented with a shot that will require penetrating substantial bone??
These bullets act like a "bomb" in flesh at high velocity.
Any decent bone will stop them in their tracks, resulting in a wounded animal.
There are so many very fine well constructed hunting bullets out there.
Why would I use a thin-jacketed target/varmint bullet for big game?
55 years of hunting have made me somewhat opinionated, and in this case, I am certain my opinion is on solid ground.

Those long VLD 180's will certainly test the twist in your rifle...you'd have to shoot and see, to determine if you've got enough twist there.

As for the VLD and hunting thing...it's not my cup of tea, for a lot of the reasons Eagleye mentioned.

Everyone on the interweb chits all over Ballistic Tips for all the same reasons Berger brags about there VLD's...whodathunkit?

Load up some Accubond 160's or even a Hornady BTSP 162's, and go hunting...you're likely to never know the difference anyways.

I don't have experience with the 180 VLD but I tried loading some 175gr TSX, which also recomemds a 1:9 twist, out of a Remington 7mm Rem Mag with a 1:9.25 twist. They were keyholing at 100 yds.
