7mm Rem Mag Browning BAR Load suggestion

I have reloaded for 7mm Rem Mag before for bolt action before with H1000. With the bolt action I had enough room in the mag to make the round long enough to be .010 off the lands and had great success with that load.
The Browming BAR has zero room for an extended round in the mag so I am stuck with Saami specs with a 9.5:1 twist. Im guessing the jump is quite large and may work with an all copper bullet. I would prefer to go with a 162 gr ELDX, but I am open to suggestions.

Please help with any proven load recipe.

Actually the Hornandy manual says the H4831 had the best results with the top velocities. Then when you look at the 162 load in the same manual. Can I assume that "AB" is short for Accubond?

Yep I have found the Accubond 160 to be the almost perfect bullet for the 7mm Mag.

I tried H4350 and 150gr E-tips but couldn't get velocity.

H4831Sc showed god velocity, function and accuracy.

I like using the Hodgdon Extreme as I don't have to worry as much about temp swings.

Another Powder I was going to try was R-19.

I tried some 160 gr Accubond and H4831 SC.

These are close to MAX charges so use with caution. Depending on Brass and headspace.

I would start at 62.5-63. grains and work up with your brass and chamber.

Hodgdon lists 64.0 as max load with 162 BTSP...2871 fps.

Nosler doesn't list H4831 SC for 160 AB, but they list it for 168 ABLR and HPBT max charge is 65 gr. @2920 fps.

I got excellent accuracy and very slight ejector mark @64.5.....close to 2900 fps.

Nosler brass NEW.
Fed 215 Mag match
H4831 SC
2.720 OAL C.B.T ogive

So book data is probably bang on with 64 grains being max load.

I ran out of 160 accubonds.

So I am going to try 162 ELDx and 64 grains.

Not sure what others BARs do but mine usually prints 2 very close shots.....and 3rd starts to "walk".

With the 64.5 gr load my first 2 shots were 1/2" moa.....the 3rd shot opened group up to about 1.25".

I am liking the idea of using ELDx because of the cost savings and reports of excellent performance at longer ranges and more than adequate performance on close range shots.

It's replaced Berger VLD for my long range loads....and they feed better out of magazines as well.

Have owned a bunch of Bar. Our powder guru Ganderite, piped up in a previous thread.

If you look at the powders listed for a given projectile...weight....go with the fastest powder....I'm thinking H1000 isnt it. The idea is that the peak pressure curve has already passed when the gas enters the port. So you get a thumper cartridge, as compared to factory, but dont beat up the mechanicals. Trick is finding that powder, in a accuracy node.

Great rifles, and accurate. Every one i have owned was capable of MOA.

I am finding good velocity, accuracy and function with H4831SC.

Other powders in that burn rate would be.

Ramshot Hunter
IMR 4955
Hogdon Superformance
And possible R-22.

I like using Hodgdon Extreme because they seem to be the most stable with regards to temp.

I am doing load development in +1 deg. But sometimes hunt on afternoons when it's 15-20 degs. Or late season when it's minus 15-20.

Viht N165 would be one to try?...,but more $$$ than most.

Ramshot Hunter would be the cheapest....usually $10 less per pound.

Awesome responses guys! Thank you. Also, never even thought about the crimp but that rifle will slam those rounds in. I did speak to Browning directly about using factory ammo and they came back advising not to use the superformance.

They probably suggest Winchester because they use a crimped mouth on alot of not all their factory ammo.

The jump on the AB and Eld x is not bad on mine but the chamber could be totally different.

You can get them close to lands and still function out of magazine.

Mine is an oldy. Made in Belgium and Assembled in Belgium.

Gents,

After careful thought, and before I spend too much time on it, I decided to put it up for sale. Found something else that is more pressing. Thank you for your suggestions and apologize for wasting your time. Had it at the range with the Precision Hunter and its a shooter. SUB Moa for the first 2 shots and as all BAR owners seem to say, the 3rd one walks a little. If any of you are looking for a Mint 7mmRM Mk3, let me know as I am open to offers. Its on EE now.
