7mm Rem. Mag For Deer

Hate to argue, but comparing the 2 calibres quickly on the winchester ballistics calculator with the same weight bullet of the same type, they aren't even comparable. Maybe if your talking about the trajectory within 200 yards? 7RM is faster, flatter, harder hitting by far and bucks the wind better….

I'm familiar with the ballistics. The poster didn't ask what the difference is, he asked what makes one a better choice for hunting ungulates. For general use, I don't think the difference makes a difference. For ranges past 400 yards, I'd pick the 7RM though.

I hunted with a 7mm rem mag for years as well.
160 ish grain nosler partitions
main reason for me is/was overlapping openings for other larger game at same time as deer..... example, spike fork bull moose, mulies, black bear all open at same time.
I was sure the 7mm mag was the right gun for me and my hunting. the only time I didn't like it was when I made a poorish shot and clipped the shoulder ..... meat loss was a little high but acceptable.

these days I've gone back to my roots and have been hunting with .303 british and the animals have been dropping with zero issues :D from mulies to moose
but..... I wouldn't hesitate to have a 7mm rem mag as my only hunting rifle if that was the situation I was in.
giver er ;)

Only ever killed one deer with one. Head shot. It worked fine, let's just say. 7mm mag is an awesome calibre! If I only ever had 1 game rifle. That would be my choice!

two thoughts:
You can never have "too much" gun;
I would rather look at them than look for them.(animals)

Go ahead and use Grandads rifle..............
