7mm rem mag primer question

I'm going to start reloading for my 7mm and and I'm new to it.

I've read all the books but before I get started I have a question.

I came into a supply (just under 1K) of winchester WLR primers and I'm wondering if I can use them.

I've read that before folks had success reloading the magnums with these and that some guys still use them. Apparently they're hotter than most.

Should I just skip them and get magnum primers or can I use them. As well, if I was going to use them would I have more success with a faster burning powder or slower?

Magnum primers are fine to use. They may generate a bit extra pressure and velocity. So work up to max loads -- don't start there. They are probably only really needed if you are shooting ball powder, and not really necessary for extruded powder like H1000 or H4831.

Regular large rifle non-magnums will work fine. You may lose a bit more velocity in cold weather or when using ball powders than you would with a magnum primer.

Yes Winchester are the "hottest" of the main 4 primer suppliers. Remington < Federal = CCI < Winchester

This does not mean Winchester makes a better or worse primer.
