7mm Rem Mag - TSX 150s

I recently bought a TC Prohunter in 7mm Remington Magnum. The first loads I put through it were factory winchester ballastic silver tips (140 gr) and the rifle was a tack driver to say the least.

This is my moose hunting rig and I wanted something a little more suited for moose and thus purchased some barnes tsx's (150 gr).

The first set of reloads (step test) grouped horribly and the frustration set it. Does anyone have any pet loads for the 7mm Rem Mag? Moose hunting is fast approaching and I'd like to get the sub 1/2 moa I was getting with the silver tips but with the barnes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have had great success with both the 140gr TSX, and the 140gr TTSX. Both are accurate in the rifles that I loaded for, and both work well on elk and moose. I used primarily R-22, and seated them .050" off of the lands. I did have to reduce the powder charges slightly compared to cup and core bullets of the same weight.

I have had good luck loading barnes about .050 off the lands just like stubble. This has been for a few different calibres too. Powder wise I'm usually in the middle to low end of the book. Hope that helps cause those things get pricey quick if you have to chase them around

But with similar velocity I am assuming? Barnes manual is way out to lunch on powder selection and the velocities that the cartridge is capable of. There has to be something missing.

I have recently committed to a nice Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag and am curious also. It will be my moose slayer this fall, and the due to a lack of 150gr TTSX's on the shelf I purchased a box of 154gr Interbonds.

My experience with TSX and TTSX's is similar you need to be well off of the lands, and they like to be pushed. I am going to try RL19, RL22, RL25, 7828, H4831, H4350 and Ramshot Magnum (if I can find anymore).
I have a load from an old friend for the 150gr's he loved in his old 700: 62grs of 4350 and anything 150gr
I would start at 60grs and work up in increments of 0.5grs. Thats my plan.

They produce similar velocity, with a grain or two less powder. The best accuracy in my rifles was with loads approaching maximum for the guns.I also used the 140s out of my 7mmstws at 3500fps, and they worked great on elk and moose. Myself and my hunting partners now use the 140gr TTSX exclusively in our 280AIs, 7mmremmags, and 7mmstws, although I do intend to try the new 145gr LRX and 139gr GMX in my new 7mmstw.
