7mm Rem Mag vs 300 Win Mag

Splitting hairs. 7MM mag using 175 grain in 24 inch barrel is hard to reach 2900 fps. 300 mag can do 180 grain at 3100 fps easily. Then there is the 30-06 that can do 180 grain at 2750 fps. They will all kill but for me the difference between the 7mm & the 30-06 isn't much given same bullet weight. Those are the numbers. Best advise is pick the one you feel fits best. Some people can't tolerate the 300.

I’ve shot a handful of big game animals with the .300 and dozens with the 7mm. I haven’t really seen too much difference between the two. My good friend has shot many dozens of animals with both and he swears the .300 is a better moose/elk/grizzly cartridge.

I've hunted with the 7mm rem mag since about 2000. Have owned it in 2 different pre 64 winchester classic sporters, one with BOSS and one without. After I sold the 2nd one to a friend I grabbed a rem 700 .338win mag..... recoil wasn't why i sold it.... just didn't feel that rifle so I sold it.
Grabbed a ruger m77 mkII in 7mm rem mag and never looked back. Will hunt with it for open terrain moose, elk, deer and I have her completely dialed with 160gr Nosler accubond and the 175gr nolser accubond LR out to 500 yards. Though realistically I doubt I'd ever shoot at anything past 300 and would opt to get closer.
No experience with the 300 but it seems popular with a lot of hunters. If I wanted to step up from the 7mm rem mag again, it would be another .338 win mag.
