7mm Rem Mag vs 7mm STW?

I think you wrong sakabush. I know many guys that own STW's and I have only heard of a guy that owns a 7mmRUM. There is a reason Wholesale sports still has Senderos chambered in 7mm RUM that they brought in 2 years ago. I read an article which predicts the next 10 rounds to be extinct and the 7mm RUM was one of them.

Curious thing about that 7mm RUM. I would have thought that it would do well. With the 162 A-Max it should be a good long range rifle.

If you want to do that STW correctly, then you will have to enlarge mag box/length.

As the owner of two 7mmstw rifles built from 7mmremmag actions,I can assure you that you are 100% wrong. The standard 7mmremmag magazine is 3.680" which is the same length as the factory 7mm stw rifles.
By the way,I also own a 7mmultramag and prefer the 7mmstws since they are only 50fps to 75fps behind the ultramag while burning around 10gr less powder ,producing less recoil and having longer barrel life..

As far as I'm concerned, after hearing what that idjit said to gatehouse about
Us Canadians, "Big Green" can KISS MY CANUCK BUTT!!

Depending on how one seats their A-Max's or MatchKing's, space can get tight pretty quick. On the other hand, if one sticks to "hunting bullits" then I will agree with you that the rifle is Ok as issued. In the end, it depends on application...

However, I will concede that the long slender case of the STW is very ###y.

The 7 STW has a good advantage over the 7mag.I had a Savage 7mm mag rechambered to a 7 STW 24" tube.I shoot Barnes 160 XLC's at over 3400.I have had it close to 3500 but was warm.Still can get 4 or 5 loadings from a case. Why Not has been to the range and watched the crony. It will shoot moa with that load.

Don't believe a word of this! Everyone knows you can't get that kind of velocity out of a twenty-four inch barrel. ;) :D

If you have a 1-9 twist, the Berger 180 VLD ~ .7 B.C. (.698) should do well for long range shooting..

The Wby and the RM are virtually identical when loaded to equal pressure.
The reason the Weatherby gets a little more velocity is Weatherby's have a longer throat or more freebore, that's helps to lower the pressure. If you would freebore a 7mm Rem they would be the same.

River Rat - which powder are you using for 3400 fps ? I can only get 3250 with IMR7828 in an usable load.

3250fps to 3300fps is typical for 160gr bullets in a 26" barrel out of a 7mmstw.If you are reaching 3400fps,you are pushing things.

Just a suggestion if you want to kick it up a knoch yet Go with the 7mm Rum loaded with 139 SST interbonds I fly mine at 3525 avg for 5 shots.

If not I would just stick with the 7mm Mag very proven Cartridge in the Big Game worl and like mentioned unless you get shooting great distance +400-500 yards the benifit ove that 300-500 foot pound and 300fsp wont be used.

That is only 25fps more than my 7mmstws produce with a 140gr bullet. Not much for burning an extra 10gr or so of powder.

Well Stubblejumper I do have a bit more reserved in the tank The 94.00 of Rl-25 id 3525 I can push it to over 3600 with 98.0 g of RL-25 and no preasure signs buti loose a 1/2 inch MOA. I am sure you have some reserve as well.
However the animal that gets hit with either I bet won't know the difference.
There is a lot of room in that 404 Jeffery case LOl and your right it loves powder.
I would love to rebarrel it with a 30 - 32 inch and see what it would realy do, it may even give the lazzies a run for the $$.
Good stootin

I actually own a 7mmultramag as well.It produces 3550 to 3570fps with 140gr bullets which is still at most 70fps more than the 7mmstw.In my opinion not enough to justify more recoil and even shorter barrel life.

Yes I agree I have a 7mm Wby there almost the same and yes there close.
You must be hikin that 7STW up pretty good to get to the 3500s velocity.
Do you use the same powder in both? I have a small reseve od 870 i like for mine as well with low psi however the velocity falls flat on its face down to 3400 with it and 140s. and even lower in the WBY mag.3200 something.
However call a ace a ace i guess. there all good in my books, Love the .284 bullets.
