7mm rem mag

I used a 7 Mag for years and have only one word of advice............use premium bullets such as Nosler Parts, Accubonds or Barnes TSX..TTSX or Swift A-frames. Whatever bullets you can get with this selection in factory ammo, I'm afraid I don't know who loads what bullets as I handload for everything.
The 7 will shred ordinary bullets and you will have spectacular failures if you try to use cheap cup and core bullets, stay away from the fad and gimmick bullets and stick to the proven premium ones and you will be 100% successful with the big 7. Within your shooting limitations of course, but any failure you may encounter will not be fault of cartridge or bullet if take my advice. I learned this the hard way trying to use Sierra and Speer way back when.
We all know most game is taken within 200 mtrs so don't worry about whether the bullet will open up, it will, and the 7 is gentle enough that it is easy to get very proficient with it with out the fear of getting pounded senseless. I haven't been without a big 7 for 40 years now, I don't hunt with one much any more as I moved up to the 300 WM and then the 300 Wby, but wouldn't feel undergunned for any ungulate in NA with a 7mm RM. Just my experience FWIW.
 
Well rifle should be here Monday or Tuesday. Bought a box of 150gr winchester power max bonded($29.99), a box of 154gr hornady superformance interbonds($43.00) and a box of 160gr federal premium with nosler partitions($62.00). Will give a range report and pics hopefully soon! Also looking at getting a boyds stock, just not sure if i want the prairie hunter or feather weight thumb hole. Has anyone picked one up? How is the fit and finish? Thanks
 
The partitions are a good choice. I handload 150 partitions as my go to moose load and none have taken more than 1 or 2 steps at 130 to 300 yards.

I was going to use 160's but I couldn't find any when I developed the load.
 
3 days shipped from wholesale sports, arrived yesterday morning. After work I checked her out. The fit and finish is what I would expect from a rifle in this price range, not the best nor the worst. I shouldered it, LOP felt very good, and eye relief on the weaver scope is good. The weaver scope I compared to my burris fullfield II and is the same for glass clarity. A real plus from a budget scope! It is equipped with a BDC reticle and has real nice fine cross hairs, they did a good job picking this scope. I noticed they moved the bolt release on this model from the reciever to the front of the trigger guard, not a fan but will get used to it (awkward). The mag release is plastic and a little stiff to pull back. I than checked the trigger pull and it was set right at 2.5lbs, feels crisp and clean with 0 creep. I thouroghly cleaned it, there was no excessive crap in the barrel or action which was nice. Checked the torque on the rings and all is good. Overall I think the rifle is excellent for it's price point, I don't like the mag release and bolt release, but other than that they did a good job. The weaver scope is really nice and better than the cheap bushnells they use on other models. Hope to get to the range this weekend.

Gun collector I own a 6.5 , 7.62, 30-06, 7 mm mag 30-30 and 30 other firearms .
All firearms are hi end rifles Swiss , finish , German , Austrian
My 7mm is a great round will out shoot a 300 , 3006 and almost every other round . I can shoot out to 1000 all day long less drop more punch . I have so many notches in my rifles I need a new stock . 7mm great all round rifles
 
my go to hunting rifle is my winchester model 70 classic sporter with Boss brake/stabilizer, 7mm mag, exceptionally accurate rifle out to 600M so far. i use nothing but the federal vital shock factory ammo with nosler partition. trigger is simply outstanding. One my favorite hunting rifles
I might sell it though as i have no shortage of "deer" rifles and am in the midst of aquiring a .338 win mag for the heavier game.

i'll add that i strayed from the norm this season and bout some of those hornady superformance 7mm rem mag rounds and I'll warn ya..... the 1 deer i hit in the heart was a thru n thru..... zipped clean thru, very little trauma but deer dropped in it's tracks, was about 150yards

2nd one i hit with that superformance was at maybe 50 - 60 yards and the bullet desintegrated. i found pieces all the way up into the neck from the inside. blood shok and tramau was severe. won't do that again with that bullet :D
i'll shoot nosler partitions in my 7mm rem mag when ever possible.
