OK quick question ,
My dad is going hunting up north with my uncle in a week , My uncle has a 7MM weatherby magnum, and My dad might be borrowing my inlaws 7mm Remington Magnum . I dont want them to get the shells mixed up at all !!!!!! ,you know if they see a moose and someone grabs the wrong shell by accedent . Question will the weatherby fit in the rem mags Chamber if there was a mix up? would the bolt close ? I dont want either one to blow up a gun .
I have always hunted with an 06 or a 300 ,so I am not to familiar with the 7mm's
so if some one has an answer on this that would be great

The Weatherby won't fit the 7RM chamber, but the 7RM will fit the Weatherby chamber...

The wby won't chamber in the rem mag. The rem mag WILL chamber inthe WBY, but because it headspaces off the belt and the two are nearly identical length, it won't kB. It'll come out as a 7mm wby brass though ;)

the 7 Rem Mag will fire OK in the Wtby chamber.....just like guys who fire 300 Win in 300 Wtby chambers.....comes out looking like a Wtby case...

pretty hard to mix them up though.....

One would think, but I have seen TWO totally seperate "fireform" incidents.... both made short necked 300 Win Mag brass by torching off 7 Rem Mag's (both guys did this "accidentally").

Also have the remnants of a Ruger M77 in 7 Rem Mag after the owner tried to force feed it a 303 British round..... I'll save ya the experimentation and let you in on a little secret.... It doesn't work out very well:D They guy is lucky to have both his eyes... the stock exploded!

Longwinded way of saying.... Nothing is foolproof for a well determined fool!

Here's a thought, How about each carries they're own ammo in their pocket, and don't leave it laying around? I've hunted with lots of people with different cals/cartridges and never had this issue.

To make 7mm weatherby out of 7mm rem mag I have to run it through my weatherby sizer die.In my rifle 7 Rem will not chamber. On the other hand 7mm weatherby Will chamber in my 7 rem.
Does anybody else have both to actually check which way this works?

Just going by the dimensions listed, these two are almost identical. The only notable exceptions being the shoulder location. The Weatherby's is further forward, so I don't see how it would ever chamber in a 7mmRM.

According to the dimensions on Ammoguide, The Weatherby round will chamber in the 7mm Rem Mag, but the 7mm Rem Mag will not chamber in the 7mm Weatherby. One thing I noticed is that the Weatherby case is some .050" longer overall than the Remington offering. If the throat is a bit short in your Rem Mag, That could cause a problem with "pinching" the bullet during firing, thus raising pressures beyond safe limits. The performance difference of the two cartridges is negligible. Regards, Eagleye.
