7mm cast pc (cast and pc 2 years ago, will give mold manufacture when I find it)

152gr tool blue, sized to .285, 3.160 COAL (pics are at 3.190 but needed to go shorter)

This was second attempt at casting 7mm, back in 2017 i tried Lee C285-130R pc below, it was a disaster

I shot these new cast pc today with 58gr IMR 4350, 1.5" @ 50 yards, which is not great but a success compared to the Lee (over 24" @ 50 yards)

This is the fastest i have pushed pc cast bullets (around 2800fps from data)

Not possible as its indoor range and we are not allowed near the backstop, I fired 2 groups of 3 and got about the same results so assume the size at .285 must be good. The lee was also sized to .285 but that was shot out of a savage 11, these from a Mauser M18.

Im happy with the results from first round of testing, i will try 60gr imr4350 nex time.
 
Personally I would consider that great success 1.5" with cast at 2800 fps is awesome I think...wouldn't worry about the rifling engagement at all, stabilizing to 1.5" must be not peeling a bit.

I am curious tho , how hard is the alloy used and is there any noticeable lead "skid marks" in the barrel from 2800 fps.

No idea about hardness of alloy, I purchased around 200lb of lead few years back and it was mostly cast bullets already.

I will need to do some more testing with 60gr when i get the coal right, tried again today but at 3.160 it would not chamber, so my previously stated coal must have been wrong.

the 1.5" is at 50 yards not 100.

mmm... I would be checking for lead or PC residue left in the throat from being launched at that RPM rather than a mistake reading a set of calipers.

I cleaned the rifle yesterday and all looks good, i see copper fouling but not lead or pc. I shot the cast bullets last so would see lead over the copper fouling but dont see any.
