Rem 700 S/A
24 " Kreiger Barrel
McMillan A3

Throated for 180 Berger.

Rem Brass

Virgin, full length resized, (all within .003 length) so did not trim, chambered and deburred, primer pocket uniformed, flash hole deburred.

Did not weight sort brass.

Noticed while seating I had a few pieces that seated way too easy? So after 1x would likely turn necks and use collet die.

H-1000
CCi-BR2
Hornady ELD-X 175(.005 off lands) 2.335 C.T.B.O

Not much published data so had starting load of 62 grains.

This was just an experiment to find a sweet spot to explore in more detail. So I did 3 round groups and .5 grain increments up to 65 gr.

62 gr had a av velocity of 2859.

Best groups and numbers came around

64.0 -65 grains.

Pressure signs were same on all the brass nothing notable.

64.5 numbers were

Again sub moa.

My next round of loading will be from 64.0 up to 65.5

Going to do 5 shot strings.

First time using 7mm ELD-X 175 and very pleased with velocity out of 24" barrel with H-1000.

Also I usually use Fed 215 Match primers but very pleased with CCi-BR2.

I did some further testing with 5 shot groups.

I got a really accurate(.400 inch) group and low e.s(18)and SD(7) @ 65.2 gr but encountered tight bolt lift, extractor marks and sticky extraction. Velocity was right around 3000 fps.

Settled on the 64.5 gr load which is 2956.

Now to see if the 175gr will be stable at long range.

Got a chance to test at 618 yards.

Burris Eliminator 3 isn't really a target scope(thick stadia) but using Strelok Pro to find the drop number and programming the Burris with a 118" drop I was able to hit steel gong for first 3 shots....so super impressed with that scope.....they just need to put it into some better glass.

I was a little concerned about the 175 Eld-X stabilizing in a 1 in 9.5 " 24 " barrel....but it does.

3.9" group.

2940 -2950 fps-

Thanks for posting this. I'm going to be getting a 7SAUM put on a R700, planning on a 26" carbon barrel. Hoping to be able to hit 2900fps with the 180gr ELDMs but might also try the 175s. What's your COAL and are you feeding from a mag?

I have to make a correction this is actually a 1 in 8.5 " twist.

I don't think you will have an issue getting to 2950 out of 26" barrel.

Yes they feed from mag(Seekins WSM bottom metal) was well planned and put together build.

Only gripe I found was 168 Berger VLD doesn't always want to feed.

I am around .007 off lands.

Cbto is 2.334

Oal 3.016

My only concern is some are saying the Berger VLD is still better on game than ELD-X.

I am going to develop a close range load that matches zero and load it with accubonds or E-Tips.

Yes but not easy and not cheap....

I got 4 bags from Rifle owner but sprung for some ADG brass from Bighorn Sales, he still had 200 pieces left but probably gone now. ADG is a step above Rem brass, and comes in a 50 round box for your reloads.

I can see a few more years and SAUM might make a full comeback, maybe not the 300 because of the WSM but the 7mm SAUM is very popular in USA.

7mm PRC, if and when it comes to market, might change that....?

Thanks for that. I've heard both the Berger VLD and the ELD-X do well on game. I'll be using Bertram brass (have 300 pieces of it) with H1000 and either CCI 250s or BR2s.
