some of you may remember I had the same model years back (2003-05) and sold it on CGN. Found one NIB and scooped it in a heartbeat

looking forward to playing with this one, wicked cartridge. First group went 1" @ 100m for 3 shots with 110gr TTsX @ 3500 f/s

Good to see the 7mm SAUM getting the attention it deserves. A very happy hunter bought my Model 7SS with HS stock and shot a 5X5 Elk thi8s fall. It is an awesome dual purpose cartridge.

Five shot group with favorite load. No load development, just filled to bullet seated at 2.8" and this is the first group I shot.

Here and I thought that "7mm SAUM" was Remingtonspeak for "obsolete".... :p

NAA.
It's anything but obsolete!I have one and just aquired another,it is a very efficient and versatile chambering, easy to load for and usually accurate over a range of bullet weights. It also avoids some the feeding problems which can occur with WSM chambereings.Remington marketed the SAUMs very poorly, but that is a Remington tradition! With 140 and 160 gr. loads the 7SAUM is the S/A equivalent of the .280AI,and treads on the heels of the 7MMRemMag in a lighter handier package.I'm more than happy with mine! Mur

So they feed better than the 7WSM?

Speaking from actual experience my M7 7SAUM feeds loaded rounds without a hitch..
My Win. M70 .270WSM Classic feeds loaded rounds and empty cases from both sides of the magazine with ease something the M7 7SAUM my can't do..
My conclusion regarding the short mags. feeding smoothly is that the rifle is more important than the case configuration..
So much for short mag. rounds not feeding worth a hoot in rifles designed for them..
Same goes for the 30 vs 35 degree shoulder speculation..

Actually I have heard of a number of feed problems with both the .270WSM and 7mmWSM,it is a frequently discussed subject.I have a .300WSM that has never caused me any problems and lots(but not all) of the lighter WSMs are problem free. The WSSM feed issues are another thing altogether. Mur

all my SAUM's have fed fine. only owned one WSM and it also fed fine (m700 xcr 300wsm). Ive seen 375 H&H that wouldnt feed 100%, if anything should feed it should be that cartridge. I agree, feeding problems usually a gun problem

So what are the differences between a 7 WSM and a 7 SAUM? Is one better than the other?

Difference is about 8-10 grains less powder, in the 7SAUM, to get the same velocities as a 7WSM. This efficiency results in less recoil, longer barrel life and much easier to find accurate loads, especially in a 22" barrel.

I sat beside a fellow with a $3500.00 HS Precision, 22" barreled 7WSM with the Model 7, 7SAUM, that I featured in a post on this thread. He went through about six loads before he got a group that he thought was good enough to take Elk hunting. His velocities with the 160 bullets were almost identical to mine but group didn't come close. He thought that I had a HS Precision rifle because of the stock.

I'll keep that in mind when looking for my next rifle.

Iclund, That HS Stock is sweet. Also have a Model Seven in 7 SAUM. Love it. Got trigger down to 3lb. installed Decel pad with walnut support in stock, free float barrel with Devcon Bedding. Put a Burris Euro Diamond 1.75X6 on top. Now it's civilized.:D
Just need to start reloading now.

I have a stainless 700 bdl in 7saum. It wasn't feeding the second round very well when I first got it but after playing with the spring I got feeding reliabily now. I have her sitting in a McMillan Classic. It's a great shooter.

Given the same bbl. length, the WSM can achieve slightly higher velocity.

The Saum has less cap. then the WSM which is a positive, and a longer neck, another positive for reloaders.

How is less capacity a positive? If you're referring to powder usage, then a 7x57 or 7mm-08 is superior to all 7mm mags. :)
