Ok So I recently purchased a Rem 700 7 STW w/ hinged floor plate follower. I'm looking into some recommendations for DBM conversion. I've looked at wyatts outdoors and think that PTG might offer one that will work as well.

Anyone done this conversion on a 7 STW before?

Really looking for some advice on being able to mag load to at least 3.700" . Through some load testing it appears that the rifle likes about .15 to .25 from the lands and obviously the gun is built for a OAL of 3.550 to 3.600. Gun appears to fire best around 3.660

This isn't a long range target gun but a large caliber hunting rifle. So honestly if I have to sacrifice some OAL to mag feed something I will have to work around.

Thanks in advance,

I had McMillan inlet a stock for the factory Remington detachable mag system, and it worked out very well. I was able to load to 3.660" and still cycle through the magazine reliably.

I load for a 300 Rum that also likes long OAL. One is caught, if you want to use the magazine you must have a different load that is not optimal for accuracy and horsepower. So my solution has been to live with the lesser round as a magazine load, and when walking i single load the long load in the chamber.

I really dont know of a way around this, short of complex gunsmithing that would quickly equal the value of the gun. In many ways, instead of doing that a true custom gun and leaving the original alone, may be the way to go. Live with the limitations of the floorplate STW, or perhaps sell it to help with the cost of a custom.

Just my 5c worth...YMMV

While I really don't mind hand feeding the longer OAL and running back ups at shorter in the mag. Really shouldn't be that much of an issue, honestly inletting the stock isn't a show stopper.

I'm looking for some product recommendations on DBM trigger guards that will replace for the Rem 700 action. As I said before I had looked at a wyatts outdoors products but was wondering if anyone had used anything else?

As its my first STW I assume its a long action not some extended magnum action???

Thanks again in advance for all the comments and advice.

i have a Remington in stw and considered a removable mag ..... until I ran my bullets to the oal needed to fit the mag and saw a noticeable loss in velocity and a increase in group size .
I don't have exact numbers , but I had to reduce my max powder charge of either h-870 or h-5010 around 3 grains with a 160 grain barnes x bullet , and even then it was on the hot side .
the group size went 5 rounds to around a inch from touching .

my reasoning to leave the floor plate alone was the type of hunting I'd be doing with it .
I'm not going to be jumping out of a truck or off of a quad , trying to jam a magazine into the rifle and get a quick shot off .
but more of a leisurely , " oh look , a moose across that slash " and you set the rifle up , scope the moose out to check for antlers , take a leak , watch the wind , calculate the range , figure out where the moose might run to after being hit ... ect ...ect...ect... ( slight exaggeration , but you get my point ) .

^^^ What he said ^^^

Get a high performance rifle with long range capabilities in order to rush a short range opportunity only to lose the magazine . . .

Really more a convenience thing as we do a lot of truck hunting to get back to open spots where you can glass for moose.

I think I'm going to look at the Remington or Wyatt's products as they look like you can mag load out to about 3.700 and still feed properly.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Put a Wyatt's on my 6.5-06 build, it's a quality DBM and the mags seem like they will hold up. Got mine from Plenty"O"Patches, Dan Opel 780-514-1243. He had it in stock.
