I’ve worked up a load with the 140 grain nosler ballistic tips and it shoots great however I wanna take this rig for an upcoming elk hunt and I don’t think that bullet is upto the task. The nosler accubond seems to be the same bc and sd. Would a simple switch to this bullet be the answer for elk ? I also have some 139grain hornady interlocks which I don’t think will hold together as well either. It shoots the ballistic tips into .3 if inch and I hate to switch but I feel I need something a little stouter for elk. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these mentioned bullets on elk ? Will they fail on shoulder shots is the big concern. Or should I be looking towards heavier 160 -175 grainers for elk in this cartridge? Any andvice or load from the STW Owners is appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't trust the 140gr NBT to break heavy bone, especially at STW impact speeds. The Accubond won't nuke on impact and penetration will be deeper

I have owned six 7mmstw rifles over 30+ years, and I have killed several dozen head of big game with them. My go to bullet for all big game is the 140-150gr TTSX at 3400-3500fps. I actually prefer the 140gr, but a couple of my rifles shoot the 150gr more accurately.

Look at the 160 accubond or the 168 LRX from barnes. STW speeds will destroy most "regular bullets" good for use on deer and antelope, but when you need to break bone or penetrate on a racking shot use the heavier controlled expansion bullets. Loaded for an STW for approx 20 years. Used the 160 TSX in a browning A-Bolt and shoots little groups and haven't caught one in an elk or moose yet.....

Dogleg will be along shortly!!! HAHA

for what it is worth, I have been testing the 160 trophy bonded tip in my 28 Nosler, which is tougher than an accubond IMHO, Its bonded with a solid shank and cabelas has them for $50 per box of 50. I started loading them yesterday and got 1 moa at 200 yards. I was using load of 85 grains RL33 seated .50 thou off the lands. I will be testing velocity today.

I would go with the accubond or better yet, etip. I got my 7mm rm. Humming right along with 1/2 moa at 3200. Worked great on a bull moose last year. 2 steps and down. PM me if you want some 160 accubonds.
