7mm vs 300 Win mag

this is getting too far.

Want to see how flat my 17 HMR shoots ???

To OP : Both are good. Both will kill a moose. Get whatever makes you happy, really.... Prefer a toyota or a honda? Lets argue until next week...

get get a .338, the Berger 300gr hunting/tactical have a .818 BC.

it makes the 7mm look like a little Bitc#

:nest:

Berger just announced a 7mm 190gr EOL Hybrid with a G1 BC of 0.796, and a G7 of 0.406. A guy should be able to get that baby smoking along at about 2850-2900fps from a regular 7Mag...

in my opinion, 7mm mag is the best caliber for an all around north america game, .300 win mag will be harder on the meat on deer. And since the OP want an all around rifle, the 7mm will be my choice

Both great calbers.
I have the 7mm Mag and my next step up is the
338 Win Mag.

If i could only use one i would go with the
7mm mag although you cant go wrong with the 300wm

7mm Express (280 Rem) is worth considering. No belt to deal with if you reload and recoil is manageable. 284 Winchester is also a good round if you want a nice light short action. but between 7mm mag and 300 win mag, I like 'em both and own a 300wm, If I had to choose between those two, I'd say 7mm mag. If I had to choose out of whichever I wanted, it would be 284 Winchester or 280 Ackley

I wouldn't hunt with a brake,,. I reserve any of my guns with brakes for the bench with good ear protection, im not a big fan of the percussion blast or noise any more.. never used to bother me, but it does now, guess years of shooting with no ear protection. Ive shot both the 7 and 300..its personal preference, i find recoil is relative to what gun you choose. Even without a brake 300 isnt bad to shoot.
