Lol, not yet.

But there's a nice bull moose hanging around a big,close to home, he's 600 yards out,about 8.71 moa drop, and I'm still pushing a 162 g bullet at 2800 fps.

I'll let you know how it goes..

I used to swear by the .308 however after a few years of living in the mountains in B.C. now, it’s 7mm rem mag alllll the way without question. Find an older Husky/Gustov/BSA etc and never look back.

Edit: ok soooo....spring 2021 seen someone stuff a 308 into the chamber of my Husky 7mm rem mag....KABOOM!.....ended up taking 3 nice deer this year with a great Ruger 700XB in 308 after that @ 100m, 200m and 75m.....So yeah, I guess as it's they say, "never say never"...turns out I "looked back" after all.

"Punch" isn't an easy term to measure. I'd use either without much worry. The 708 can do almost everything with a 140gr bullet that a 308 can do with a 165gr. 308 can deliver more energy on target at normal hunting ranges. If you see some advantage in one, then it's for you.

If you don't reload, 708 factory ammo is less common and more expensive than 308.

Sometimes I like to go out behind my house and do some Bush hunting, lots of walking, longest shot would be 100 yards.
I use a 30 30 lever for that,with open sights.

And sometimes I like to take a ride to the cutovers and bogs, most times it's going to be a long shot, i use my 7 for that.

For the sake of that moose I sure hope you practice A LOT at 600 yard targets in all sorts of weather conditions, different crosswinds and different field positions.
It won't be like shooting paper when you can say "oops I pulled that shot"
That moose deserves better

havnt shot 600 yards ever, wanna tickle it soon though on a target!! as above, the game deserves me to put it in the spot...not just range it an fire upon it. an cross fingers while the projie gets there :)
 
Well it is almost time for the yearly " I'm a sniper...I can shoot animals at ______ yds"
The distance is blank, because we all have different limits, but a certain sort of fella...he can always out shoot everyone else as far as distance. Likely their good shooting distances vary to the post at hand.
Maybe this year I'll just get a meme that says something to the effect of 'Compensating? It's OK...really. No one can tell..."

It'd beat arguing. I shoot a bit, know a few folks who shoot. Can't say I know but one guy who actually shot something at 500+ yds. And it was a dyck move then IMO

99 % of hunters can't hit an 8 inch pie plate at 100 yards, including some of you.
But I practice continuously, 100s of rd downrange monthly,know my rifle is sub MOA.
And I mention shooting a moose at 5,6 hundred yards , a d you guys start with your unethical BS.

So who's really unethical here?
I would think,if I were a judging type person,( which I'm not), that it's the 99% who can't hit a 8 inch target at 100 yards or less , but continue to hunt anyway.
Making every excuse in the book when they miss or blow the leg off animal,
Instead of the reality that it's their Sh!try shooting skills,or their $50 scope hasn't been sighted in properly..lol
But hey, flame away.

So now a hunters budget and skill set needs to be evaluated before going hunting ?

And FYI I’m quite capable of hitTing an oven door at 100 yards with a bipod , so you can quit the #### measuring.

Some of us are poor , we don’t need reminders.
