7mm vs .308

Curious as to what your 500 yard kill count is.
Or anyone else reading this thread

I've only killed 1 animal at +500 yards ranged...a 5x6 bull elk with a 338 Lapua shooting 300 gr accubonds.

The vast majority are at less than 100 yards and lots at less than 30 yards.

Sort of a dead thread, but reading through there is a lot of comparison of 7/08 vs 7 rem mag.

My thought. Yes, the 7 rem mag is faster and flatter but it isn't very efficient. Looking at Barnes loading data, the 7mm Rem Mag use 30% +/- more powder to achieve 8% +/- more velocity for the same bullets and similar powders. Down range this will translate to a flatter shot and more energy down range, but it isn't much.

Where or what happened to Kelly Timofee?

im loving my 7-08 quite a bit, i have a 3006 now and a 7 rem mag since last posting in here....... pass me da 7-08 any day for any game that i wish to hunt...

pass me the 7 mag if something just has to die from where i stand.

an gimme the 308/3006 for simplicity and deader than doornails

So you're saying they all they all work just fine?

But actually, that's really smart three-rifles-in-your-quiver approach for hunting where I live, too.

I’ve never really understood the argument about ammo availability. I split it up between a couple pieces of duffel/coat pockets so can quickly find a few rounds. How many rounds do you need on a hunting trip? If more than a box the second box probably won’t help much.

You do need some though. Once while packing for a moose hunt I left my ammo bag on top of the fridge as we had small kids at the time. When I got into camp I remembered where it was. Fortunately it was for a 30-06 so there was extra available in camp. But you can't count on 7-08 being on every shelf even if it has been around for a long time.

The same thing that happened to the rest of the pink brigade... personality disorder, Jack Daniel's and/or a yappy life-partner... usually all three...

Ohh i see, Thats a bit of shame the guy was knowledgeable! an a bit of a fan of the 7-08 i believe haha.

Yeah mate, i used to get all jacked up an interested in splitting hairs and i always thought there was some rifle cartridge out there that was THE one for me...... i found it in the 270, then 308, then 06 then the 708...... What it boiled down too was, they are alll doing very similiar things, with very similiar things on the end,...
the differentiates from my perspective now are VELOCITY (the further you want to shoot the faster is often better) an then DIFFERENT projectiles (alot use their 270 with X bullet and 308 with Y bullet,..... why not just use x y and Z bullet in 270? ) The rifle itself,, i mean im not going to be using a kimber montana for 500+ ... but im also not going to walk around the hills with a long barreled heavy metal Calibre.

i luv variety, never settled, but now have like 5-6 guns all doin the same thing just with different components
