I'd say if you handload then get a 260. She can shoot 120gr pills and it'll feel just like a 243, and be very effective on deer. But if she wants to hunt a moose later on, put in a full load with 140 gr bullets, and it'll kill'em just as effectively as a 308.

we are 7-08 fans...2 of them in this house. My wife loves her 7-08 in Rem 700 shooting a 139 hornady interbond at 2925 fps...excellant Mule deer medicine at 323 yds broke the right rear hip and the left front shoulder on an uphill steep raking shot...AWESOME..love everything about it...recoild from both rounds is negligible at best...just dont let her shoot off a bench...shoot off shooting sticks..benchs are hard on new shooters...
