I have necked down 444 Marlin brass to make both 7X57R and 8X57R for use in a couple of drillings. Works slick as can be!

The 7mm x 307 was done by Layne Simpson, and called the 7mm STE (Shooting Times Easterner). It obviously didn't catch on like the 7mm STW, but you might find data for it in old copies of the Shooting Times.

Actually, the 7mm STE is an improved versionof the 7 x 307, basically Layne took the design of his 7mm SGLC and switched it over to the rimmed 307 brass. A straight 7x307 would be more akin to the 7-30 Waters, in my opinion. Should have slightly more case capacity, and therefore a little more velocity. Not much tho'. - dan
