7th Annual Upper Canada Double Gun Classic

Well a brilliant idea struck. I could pack up a few toys and drive 10 hours west to Cowtown Bill’s place. From there we could send our wives off to some glitzy place like Las Vegas for a week, load up some of Bill’s treasures and head west. Another four long days on the road should put us into southern Ontario and after a couple of days of rehab we should be ready to play. What do you think Bill?

I love your enthusiasm, Jim.
Maybe, better to make a long stop over in Calgary and put a roadblock on the gals heading south. We can shoot clays all day and swap guns in the evening while the gals treat us to dinner.
Being more realistic, I think, maybe, we are need to do more planning.
Bill

At present I own two Browning O/U. One in 12gauge,725 Sporting 30", One in 20gauge,XS Skeet adjustable comb and butt. Also have an SX3 12 gauge and a Binelli SBE 3 20gauge and a fairly newly aquired Rem 870 410 Wingmaster made in 1975 unfired until I got my mitts on it. What would be an appropriate gun to buy to participate. About the only bunch on Nutz that actually enjoiy each others company or so it seems. Kindah refreshing. Im not much in the know on SXS and definately know zippo on Pinfires but have shot some SXS on occasion and owned a few only as a money maker but I did fire a really nice Winchester SXS that was supposed to be built for Cary Grant. It was a Winchester and Im thinking model 25 but not positive. I could find out if need be. Anyway what in the esteemed opinions of those way more informed than me would be a great buy for the dollar? Id make the journey to meet the CLUB. Sounds like a lot of fun. Im ok with a couple thousand but dont wanna take out out a loan, so $1500-$4000 would be my ballpark. Or just bring cash and buy onsite if available? Thanks in advance

First, you don’t need a SxS to come and enjoy the afternoon. But it would be a great place to pick a bunch of guns up and start to get a feel for what you might like. There are always some for sale. Often, the owners just don’t know it yet. Haha! And the dollar value range you noted puts lots of great guns within reach. In the 15 years I’ve been buying them all but just a couple have been acquired within that range (or less).

BTW if it was a Win SxS supposedly built for Cary Grant, likely a M21

Your correct with the Winchester being a model 21. I contacted a member of our local club and he confirmed it was a model 21. There was something about the serial number on the gun that was special also. Think it may have been the number 21. Anyways thanks for the advice. Looked at an LC Smith on the EE but it’s gone and I’d like to handle them as you suggested. Thanks

Longstud, I highly recommend that you attend, especially if you are in the market to purchase a sxs. This will be an excellent opportunity to see and handle different types SXS’s

And like canvasback said, there are always some for sale whether the owner knows it or not.

A important note worthy of mention, while everyone is encouraged to bring any and all types of double guns, just a quick reminder that guns being used on the skeet fields are limited to a max of 12g using modern ammunition no larger than 7.5 shot.

Many of us take huge pleasure seeing the larger bore doubles, black powder doubles and my personal favourite, the amazing collection of pinfires that regularly grace the tables of the event. Just be aware that these beautiful doubles are limited to just the show and shine tables and are not to be used on the skeet fields in accordance with the regulations at Oshawa Gun Club.

A little early for the reminder but maybe never to early to show appreciation to our generous hosts at the Oshawa Gun Club.

I think we have found our range officer for the event! Laugh2

If I use a 16ga, is that allowed and does it make me cooler than the other shooters?

Yes a 16 gauge is allowed and yes, you will be cooler than the others. At least that's how I felt when I used my 16 ga at previous Annual Double Gun Classic shoots. Haha.

I will assume an air of superiority and wait until no one is looking before I scurry around to pick up my purple spent hulls…
