Well took the 7x57 M out for its second deer season and to say the least I'm impresssed with it. two shots two deer instant kills.

The one last yr was a 4x4pt mule at about 120 yds and this yr a very big 3x3pt at 90-100 yrds. I'm using IMR 4320 powder with a Nosler 150 gr ballistic tip bullet. the more I use this cartridge the more I love it. I used to use a 308 for deer and my trusty 35 imp whelen.

Is anyone else out there enjoying the 7x57 for hunting as much as I am?:D

How's its performance for Moose ???

7x57mm

Got one in a tangsafety Ruger 77... shoots like a house of fire but I haven't hunted it yet.

A good load with a 160 or 175 grain quality bullet should do nicely for moose.

Last time I used mine was 2 years ago--nosler 140 partitions in Federal factory ammo--tagged one of the largest (body size) muleys I have ever shot--about 150 yards quartering towards me--bang-flop.

I have shot 10 0r 12 muleys with the 7x57 and 140 or 150 grain bellets--ranges from 75 to 375-400 yards and have yet to lose one.

Helped a buddy put down a moose last year with it shooting 175 partitions. range was around 140 yards quartering towards us--shot in lower chest and angle back and out the off-side ribs--didn't recover the bullet.

I use it by choice when I am not trying out some other cartridge--we useually have 2 non-trophy mule tags and a whitetail tag each fall so I like to try out different ones--last year was the 260 Rem's turn. It will get one this year and likely a .308 will get the other.

I used mine last year on a small 4x4 mule deer, with a 150 gr Nosler BT. This is a nice light weight rig built on a Rem 700. It's just too bad that no one chambers this round anymore, except for the Ruger single shots.

In my experience, if you feed the 7x57 the right loads and place the shot properly it won't let you down :D

Moose? I've killed at least two bulls with a 7x57. One with a 140 grain Nosler Partition and the other with a 139 grain Hornady Spire point. Both dropped dead within a few yards of where they were hit. A buddy killed a nice bull with one too. That one ran about 20 yards.

Bullet construction and placement is the key.

I cannot say for moose yet, give us three or four weeks.

The other four animals I have hit with mine were very impressed.
I started out with 140 and 145gr but after trying the 154gr I think I have found the niche for my rifle as it really loves them. One shot apiece so far.

7 X 57 Mauser

I have hunted for years with a 7 X 57 in a 21H Brno.

I have a Ruger No1 in 7 X 57 and it is a handy little gun and the 7 X 57 is a joy to shoot.

One of my other guns is a Remington 700 BDL with a 7mm08 SS 22" Mountain Rifle barrel and it performs as well as the 7 X 57's. It has a shorter action and cuts the weight down.

I probably have about 15 or 20 guns in 7 X 57 and never had a problem hitting the bull with any of them.

7x57

I have been shooting a husky vapenfabricks 7 x 57 all my hunting life 28 years,in that time I have shot both factory and handloads 115-175 grain. This caliber handles exceptionally well for most north American game. I have taken sheep, goat, many moose, deer and antelope. the round generates plenty of energy to efficently kill big game. IMO

Check out under "Hunting", "Moose at 328 yards, 7mm-08" with pictures.

7mm-08 is the ballisticly the same as handloaded 7X57 Mauser. Hope that answer your question :)

7 X 57

Sighted in my Ruger yesterday and shot a 5 shot group about the size of a Loonie off hand at 100 and its not even an effort.
Off hand meaning sitting at a bench without sand bags or bipod.
Each time I shoot the 7mm I like it more and more.
Hand loading is the only way you can get the variety you are looking for.
Now I am ready for the season.

Wow! if you shoot Loonie size 5-shot groups Offhand you better enter in some competition, because that is better than 99,5% of all shooters do. Personally, I'm extremely happy with 4" groups offhand. Bench or rested shooting is different, of course. Regards, Eagleye

I gave my son my Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 7x57 when he passed his CORE test and got his hunting licence. Might as well start him with a good rifle that's capable of taking anything around here. :D Everytime we go out he packs "his" rifle, and rightly so......7x57 better on game performance than the books say.:50cal:
140 Nosler's at 2825 fps, very good weight for deer and blackies, I would use something a little heavier for moose and other bigger critters.:)
