7x57 mauser

Yup, 175 gr Hornady RN bullets in several 7X57s over the years have been more than enough!

It's certainly not a short range load either. When sighted in at 200 yd it's 3 1/2" high at 100, 6" low at 250. Plenty flat enough for most of us. :D

7x57

I'm impressed with how many fella's love the 7x57.

My best groupings with it bench rested is 5/8" I have it in the Rem 700 Classic with light wt stock. I am shooting IMR 4320 powder and the Nosler 150 grn balistic bullet and it is a great combination for me.

Got to put in my 2 cents.I've got a 7x57 in a Dumoilin mauser action that is absolutely both gorgeous and accurate!!! If I do my part it'll go 1.0"" at 200 yards! Actually I only did that once but still it also got a nice cow moose and several deer so far.(also a fat porqupine harrassing my cattle) Ever try to pull quills from the nostrils of a big Hereford? JITC

I've been shooting a BRNO 7x57 for too many years and can only say it is the best all around calibre and rifle, Its been shot out and replaced with a shilen match to the same contour except its now 24". Its a tack driver and gives my Swift a run for accuracy. I'll probably retire it this year. Part of its accuracy is due to the Burgess mounts and the Leupold 6x42.

I have a7x57 in a ruger #1 RSI. I use 154g Hornady interlocks as an "allround" bullet. I have found that bullet is just a little bit stout (at the velocity I am shooting) for deer but gives penetration that should be good enough for elk.

7x57

My 7x57 is a custom job with a Shilen barrel 26 inches and a Bell and Carson stock with a Timney trigger. I have a Burris Signature 2-8 x 32 on top and I have just returned from sighting it in. Its bang on at 200 meters in a nice small grouping of 140 grain Triple Shock X bullets. I'll be taking it to southern Alberta this week to try and fill my 3 tags. FS

Reloaden the 7x57mauser

I've got a nice littel Chilian Mod 1935 sporterd. And she's a beaut... I love it. I just started reloading for it, and started with older lead I found at the army surplus, 160grain Sierras, the loading options were not all that many, and the velocities seemed a bit slow, in the 2200 to 2300 fps range depending on powder. I am new to the reloading gig, but I would have thought I could get faster , but I am very happy with the shooting test, as those loads on grain under posted max were very accurate...

I will be trying lighter bullets too...

I would die for a full stocked CRF bolt in 7X57. A Mauser, Sauer, or even Ruger.
I lucked out a while back and picked up a 1908 Brazilian Mauser 7x57, long barrel, full wood and in very nice condition. Even had the original leather sling and attachments. I got it to use for the basis of a project rifle but I've been 'convinced' not to touch it, so far.
The other 7x57 I have is a little different, a Brno OU, 7x57R & 12ga. and part of the deal was a set of skeet barrels with it. Although I now have some RWS brass, getting 7x57R brass can be a little difficult, however it can be fireformed from 303Br. brass. A fun gun to take for a walk once in a while.

First time with a 7x57.

I don't keep many rifles for long but this one isn't going anywhere.:) Sighted it in a couple days prior to shooting this buck with federal factory 140gr, 3 shots into 9/16" with the old Zeiss 4x scope.

Johnn,

I make 7X57R and 8X57R out of 444 Marlin brass. Works slick as butter!

Ted
Thanks for the heads up on using 444 Marlin brass. I never even considered it as an option. Mind you my supply of 444 brass for my 444S is limited at the moment, its probably easier to come by than 7x57R. However, I did luck out and got hold of a good quantity of RWS so I should be good to go for quite a while. The stuff I've made out of 303Br. works and 'readily' available, a dime a dozen. Easy to make as well, just run it through a 7x57 sizing die. Do you need any forming dies or procedures to make it from 444 brass?
Thanks again for the info though.
