Well I took my new to me, Model 1908 out to the range and had a blast, first one was a flyer and the rest in about 2" at 100yds with irons, these sure can shoot,
it was with 175gr FMJ, Prvi partizan ( yugoslavia ). Cant wait to try reloads! :)

7x57 is a great cartridge. The flyer may have been from oil residue in the barrel. I always try to remember to pull a boresnake through my guns before shooting them at the range.

1908

The 7x57 Mauser is an outstanding cartridge! The .270 seems to have usurped it as a mainstream cartridge. I took my 1908 Brazilian to the range with plain old Federal Powershock ammo. Pasted the bull at 100 and rang the 200 yard gong like a church bell. I find the ammo to be scarce and expensive.

Try very careful handloading for the thing.

Friend of mine has s/n 25 and it is shooting about 1.5 MOA and that's with a worn bore. He had a real nice one that shot just over half a minute. Partizan brass is really good stuff, so go to it. Keep your loads just a little under milspec for best accuracy.

You're onto a really good one and I'm sure you'll have a LOT of fun with it for a very long time.

Enjoy.
