7x57 south of Hwy 7 for small game in Ontario

I guess the 6.5x300 Weatherby mag would be ok then, stupid rules ,stupid politicians who know nothing about nothing.

Exactly. But, as Claybuster mentioned - leave well enough alone. I can shoot small game with a .270 Wby Mag but not an 1894 30-30...

Please note: The law in Ontario does not say "south of 7". It mentions counties which are in southern Ontario. Check the MNR regs. (Yes, this has been mentioned but seems to keep getting overlooked)...

Houligan, bear are big game and you need a tag to hunt them.

The question more pressing is, can we shoot black bears with calibers larger than .275. The regs specifically say "small game", bears are definetly not small game. Redd care to jump on this one?
Yes you are right Houligan... there is no caliber restriction for hunting bears in all WMU's with an open season except WMU 7A .
The confusion lies with the shotgun only rules for deer hunting and the .270 and under caliber restriction for hunting small game in these same areas.

That's a strange one, eh? 7A is in the middle of Ont/Man/Nowhere!
Does anybody know why 7A is bow/muzzle-loader only?

WMU 7A is the Aulneau Penninsula on Lake of the Woods... this area is very small and sometimes has high hunter numbers... it is traditionally a Moose Area and is strictly a Primitive weapon only area for all big game.:)

the caliber restriction in peterborough county is .275 or smaller not .270 all tho i have never seen a gun chambered in .275 it must be a european cartidge or something.
