What can one tell me about the 7x65r other than it is the rimmed version of the 7x64 Brenneke?
Any one have the experience of hunting with the caliber?

I was planning a 7x65R at one time, mostly to scratch my single shot itch, and I even had a set of dies squirreled away. Eventually, because I couldn't fine a suitable action ( I was hoping for a Dakota #10 ), and because I had soured somewhat on custom projects, I gave up on the idea and sold the dies. I consoled myself with the theory that it really wasn't enough of an improvement over my 7x57 to be worth the bother. And considering the velocities my 7x57 is capable of, it really wasn't.

shot most of my roe deers with my dad drilling: a merkel in 7x65r. loaded with speer and nosler partition 160 grains.

worked great on wild boar and red deer but it is not a 9.3x74r for sure.

the pressure like the one on the 30r make it hard on weaker action.

for a good builder that is not a problem.

are you moving from the 7x57r to the 7x65r?

Just ask about the 7X64... virtually identical... all of the "R" versions were developed for doubles and drilling for more positive extraction.

Thanks guys!!
No I’m just contemplating a custom single shot rifle mainly for sheep, caribou, bear, maybe moose(but I have the 9.3x62 for that and bison)!

Not lots of choices for good rimmed cartridges, 30r is good on paper but has quite a short neck… 9.3x74r is great but not exactly needed for smaller lighter animals…

7x65r seams to be quite popular in Europe so quite a bit of factory ammo or brass available! 1-9 twist will stabilize up to 175gr and I a good action should be able to push that to 2500-2600fps…

Maybe I’m just getting boring; but there’s something appealing about parts compatibility for reloading. My next gun will be an 8x57 bolt to match my single shot; just need brass. The same dies, an 06 shell holder, same powders and bullets.

That action looks like a piece of art. I don’t really understand if you need to fully crack it open to reload it though, looks like it might not be up for a quick reload

I hunt with a couple of 7x64 rifles, same thing only rimless. Very versatile cartridge and easy to shoot well. Based on that experience, I think the 7x65R is a fine choice for your purposes. My brother has a Blaser K95 in 7x65R. A nice, light and capable package. If you want a little more power but not quite as flat trajectory the 8x57IRS is also good. I had a couple of 8x57IRS rifles but they didn't get used enough so they went down the road.
The .30R Blaser is a very interesting cartridge. I have a Krieghoff Hubertus in .30R. I've only owned it a couple years. Shot one moose and one whitetail so far with it. I like it a lot. Approx. Power of a .300 H&H. Accurate, and doesn't seem to kick bad. Don't fret about the "short neck" The neck and shoulder configuration is almost identical in to the .308 Winchester. I actually loaded a few .30R cartridges with .308 dies before I got the proper dies for mine. Brass is not plentiful, but is available. Nordic Marksman and Epps have RWS loaded ammo.

Yeah I was really looking into the 30r blazer…. I need to really think it over and over lol !

For what it is worth, I have a single shot 7x64 falling block; it is a great chambering that is easy to feed and can do pretty well do 90% of anything you need a hunting gun to do. I could be criticized as non-traditional for having the rimless version of a cartridge in a single shot but it made sense to me. When I got the rifle there was quite a bit of 7x64 factory ammo floating around Canada and plenty of brass to had. At that time, it was a real challenge to find 7x65R, brass or ammo. If most break action or falling block single shots (K95, K5, Hagn, Jaeger 9, 1885, No.1, etc) can reliably use rimless cartridges (I am sure Blaser wouldn't chamber 30-06 in the K95 if there was a real issue with the extractor slipping the rim), the availability of rimless ammunition and brass is superior, and, when you do have rimmed/rimless versions of a cartridge, the rimless factory ammo is loaded (or closer) to it's full potential, I can't see the utility in rimmed cartridges when you have the choice.

However, by a strange turn of events, I do have set of 7x65R RCBS dies that need a new home, should anyone need...

Well in this case the gunsmith only chamber that rifle model in rimmed cartridges, so rimmed it is!!

I've not long had a Blaser K95 in 7x65, still coming to grips with it, and getting a load worked up, first impression are its a lovely compact rifle, a middle of the road 7mm, is a good place to be for a hunting rifle.
I have owned a 7x64 in Sako AV for a number of years, a Brilliant handling and shooting rifle, a bit on the heavy side mind,
I intend to sell it, once the Blaser is ready to go, with iron sights set with a load, and a scoped load,

The rifle I’m getting, a single shot should be around 6.5 lbs I will most likely try to find a fix 4x or 6x lightweight quality scope amd call it good!
