After a few years of wanting, I finally have a combination rifle with 12ga over 7X65R. A long story and factors in why, but the only question at this point involves factory loading: Does anyone have an idea of what load CZ would have originally intended this 584 series to use? I realize regulation of a shotgun to rifle barrel is almost of no significance when compared to a double rifle but when a rifles sights are adjustable for elevation with only a file, to satisfy my latent OCD, there will be one factory load that would be nearest to what the manufacturer originally intended to be used. For the time being it will be factory rounds (I'm guessing S&B or RWS will be "that" manufacturer ~165gr, 2600fps), but eventually I'll set out to duplicate an ideal round with handloads.

CZ/BRNO combo guns should not be shot with slugs, all mine came with factory paperwork stating this. Why? I haven't the foggiest if it stresses the barrel in the choke area?
Great calibre you have there, but I would mount a scope as the sights are pure useless, great guns but what happened to the open sight designer?

My BRNO 204 had extra full choke on the 12ga. That would be the only reason for no slugs. I had mine bored to I/C for shooting grouse. I would shoot slugs form that.

Both bbls shoot to the same POI at 25yds so using a scope sighted for the rifle bbl I can still shoot birds.

Thanks for the replies: My CZ is a used gun so I do not have the manual with it. I've shot cheap SxS shotguns that were poorly regulated and the impact points of both barrels was unacceptably different. For the most part I intend on using bird shot for upland game as that is what these guns do best - upland birds during big game seasons - so I wouldn't bother with slugs, and certainly won't now with the warning from zywina. The shotgun bore on mine appears to be at least a modified choke which isn't ideal for upland birds, and certainly any tighter is not appropriate given the distances encountered around here.

Below is a picture of the gun in question. It's almost immaculate aside from the two smudges on the right facing stock and a bit of bluing wear. Underneath the barrel fouling are two gleaming bores and the action is so tight, so little worn I'd be surprised if it's seen a couple boxes of ammo. Yeah, I don't who was in charge of the open sights? Aside from being a nice partridge style (and ones I would probably have used instead of the optic), just vile to fit a nice rifle with sights you'd expect to find on a service pistol.

The previous owner intelligently fitted a 2-7x optic, although the mount choice and installation could have been better.

CZ will mostly use sellier and bellot ammo, for the slug i will think a brenneke. maybe you can contact the factory directly in Czech republic.

Brenneke slugs are the way to go. They have been used in German drillings and combination guns for almost 117 years. Who knows your gun could be a prewar design from when the factory was in German hands. With regard to slugs many people think the spiral design causes the slug to spin in a smooth barrel. They are designed that way so that the lead has somewhere to go when fired through a chocked barrel. Not all slugs are the same, however.

Here is a quote from a guy on another forum on the question of Brenneke slugs in chocked barrels: "I spoke to the great grandson of of the Brenneke who invented the slug design last year at the Shot Show in Las Vegas. I confirmed then that they were going to be available. I bought 12 boxes as soon as they came out but haven't shot one yet. I keep forgetting to take them along when I go to the range and shoot my drillings. I am not sure how these are loaded. When talking to Brenneke at the show I asked if these could be shot in my oldest black powder proofed drilling with the old steel barrels even if it had a tight full choked barrel. They empathicly answered yes as that is what the design of the slug was ment for. I was told not to shoot any other type of slug design though."
