sorry about the weak quality, my camcorder is kindof crappy.

this is specifically for you 200+lb guys whining like babies about 'crippling recoil' from shooting 3" magnum slugs from light, short shotguns: man up! :) this was my girlfriend's first time ever shooting magnums or slugs, she went through three boxes and all she did is smile.

and yes she got soaked from the second one :)
some epic muzzle flash. these were taken at about 2pm in broad daylight, and it lit the entire area up :shotgun:

incidentally neither of us lost our hearing from the 'skull shattering report', although there is a bit of a shockwave from the blast that made her hair and sleeves fly back :)
the little shorties are not much worse when it comes to recoil - in fact ill go so far as to say that this 8.5 Grizzly is more pleasant to shoot slugs from than my Benelli Nova Tactical. Gun fit is likely much more of a realistic factor than barrel length and gun weight. this particular gun has a short LOP Speedfeed traditional stock on it.

Nice photos, they have forced me to bring an additional gun this weekend, I have not shot mine in ages.

Did you have to put the sling attachment on to get the stock on?, also that a messa side saddle?

no, the sling attachment isnt necessary - in fact im about to take that one off and sacrifice it to make a 12-20 gauge stock adapter.
the side-saddle is a Tac-Star. i was dubious about the quality since people here have posted negative things about them, but its held up fine, the shells have not fallen out or even budged from recoil and my d*ck hasnt fallen off since i put it on the gun :)

The Remmy version of the sidesaddle isn't too bad, it seems to hold up OK. If yer hamfisted with the screws they are easily stripped.
The Mossy version is the one that gives them a bad rap...it doesn't mount firmly at all and the front screw strips with normal use.....####e.

The Mesa is in a different league and is a better mousetrap with milspec parts and construction.

Again...those pics are great! Fine looking woman wielding the shootin' iron......All good!

^theyre tapped into aluminum, so i was very careful when tightening not to overtighten. in the worst case, if the screws get stripped out, i can move the side-saddle over a bit and tap new holes for the screws but it seems to be holding up fine.

a lot of people vastly overtorque screws into aluminum. i find if youre the brute force type that tends to overtighten screws, its a good practice to hold the allen key at the SHORT end - making overtightening nearly impossible :)

does anyone know if you can use blue loctite with aluminum? i seem to recall that its not recommended. all my lettering is worn off my loctite bottle and a google search yields conflicting opinions.

Nice to see these around, i love mine. they must have a foregrip to avoid losing hand hair. Ive solved the limited ammo issue as well...

I'd like to see more pics of your lady friend - She's purty!

Glad that she's a shooter, too!

lol, ill pass it on to her.
shes just learning - shes doing great actually (especially with the .22LR), we just need to work on the chicken wing :)
the top shot is in the middle of recoil, otherwise she leans forward pretty aggressively.

Nice Gun and Girl combo you got there manbearpig. I wanted to get the 8.5 untill I saw the KSG, the plan was to have a ball detent mag cap installed to get 3+1 capacity, Knoxx NRS stock and ghost ring sights, but for more or less the same price I can have a KSG, I may still end up buying the 8.5" Grizzly one day, they are pretty cool.

Your fine with either blue or yellow loctite, red is permanent and a no-no unless your leaving it there forever:D...clean both screw threads and boss w/ brakeclean or the like and dry before using the loctite.

on the tac star side saddle just lock tight the crap out of the little screws, the shells wont start falling out untill it gets cold.
on the mesa tactical units the shells will fall out if you store then carrier full for any lenght of time.
our DSC shell holder mag not be as fancy but the elastic does not have anywhere near the issues when its cold.

Manbearpig maybe you can show your lady how to stand, she look strong, she should be able to do it the right way.
Not a dig, just waying she looking liek shes strong enought to beable to do it the right way, rather then the chicken wing weaver stance combo shes doing.

just got my tac star 6 shot saddle, very satisfied with it for now. I think the mesa is built better but this will do just fine. now I need a rail for the receiver.

badboybeeson, do you have pics of the "Mesa Tactical M1913 scope rail" and the "5.3 inch M1913 Spec Scope Rail [TOR-5.3-SHOT]" mounted to an 870? I want to see how each one would look on the receiver before deciding.

ive been trying to work on the chicken wing with her. keep in mind shes relatively new to guns so theres a *lot* to absorb right now: gun safety, form, reloads, keeping both eyes open, short shotgun-specific safety etc etc.

the little 8.5" grizzly isnt the greatest gun with which to work on form or accuracy though, or for a new shooter - she wasnt very comfortable with it. well be fitting one of my traditional 870s to her that she can shoot some clays and targets with. ive got a box full of 870 parts/accessories and a few decent Wingmaster actions, so ill let her put something together that she likes, fits her properly, and she is comfortable with. she likes traditional wood stocks :p

*edit: btw thanks for the tip on locktiting the SMALL screws. i didnt even think about them - i just checked now and half of them were loose, a bit more shooting and theyd likely have fallen out, which would have sucked.
