8 ball's C8 build progress thread

You cannot put an M4 extension on the existing barrel. The gas port and the hole for the index pin are drilled after the extension is installed. If you throw on a new extension the gas port will be out of alignment and will need to be plugged and a new hole drilled.

If it bothers you that much I"d just have a competent smith extend the feed ramps into the upper. Or you can take the DIY route with a dremel. Personally, I'd leave well enough alone, it will work fine as is. FYI the C8 doesn't have M4 cuts. Don't think the new C8A3 does either but I'd have to verify that.

Had an Armalite receiver laying around so I did this. The only parts that are on the lower now that will be on the finished gun are the pistol grip, buffer tube and stock and the mag. The rest is just for looks for now!

The rest of the parts (except the Dlask lower) should be here in the next few days. Then we have to play the waiting game to get the barrel turned down and reparkerized. :( Sorry, pics aren't the best.

The new C8 barrels have M4 feedramps, but they just use a standard weaver flat top upper.

I'm looking at a C8A3 as I type this and it does not have M4 feedramps. It dates from 2007.

The C8A3 is centered, so I'll make a correction to my earlier statement. Of all the C8FTHBs that I've seen only the C8 is centered, the FTHB appears to have been added after the original rollmark.

thanks, i'm used to the a2 type sight aperature. was issued the first gen c7 back in 86. my ara1, well there is no real differance detween battle and distance. not like the a2. was going to try and drill out the a1, but for a couple of bucks i may as well buy a a2 ap.

thanks

My c8 build = still my favorite AR and not likely to change soon :) Hurry up and get 'er done - you won't regret it. Fastest-pointing no-frills AR on the planet.

FWIW, I used an Armalite lower on mine - no regrets. Didn't see the need to get a Dlask one.

If the Dlask takes as long to get here as he is predicting I will probably have to do her up with the Armalite for a while just to get it out of my system! I do like the idea of having the CF markings on the one side though. Just because I can!

I think his repro C7/C8 lowers look like crap personally. Not even close to resembling the real deal.

At one time dlask had them engraved and they looked better
Now they seem to be cut on a cnc machine and the markings are too thick and too deep. I'm not a fan.

I haven't seen the Dlask ones in person so I'm not really in a position to argue, but surely they have to look closer to the real thing than something that says Armalite on it.

Personally, the lowers look so far from the real deal that I'd rather use an Armalite lower. At least it's not trying to look like a sh*tty copy.

It's quite sad that you can get realistic replicas made in the US, but no one seems to make a realistic copy up here.

CF marked? No, the CF destroys their rifles when they're done with them.

I've seen pics of Diemaco semi only rifles in private hands, likely sourced from Europe.

Someone did make a batch of convincing looking repro lowers a few years back. It may have even been Dlask, but his current offerings are ghey looking.
