I have heard of a russian pump 8ga, assuming its made by baikal. Has anyone imported any of these? Pending on price I may want one for the WTF value, and also for once in my life be able to say mine is bigger than yours!!!
 
I think that would do nicely, probably only need a half dozen all brass shells to go with it. Shooting it may be a different story than owning it!! Now where do I find one and how much?
 
What do you plan on doing with an 8 guage? Just curious. "I want one." is reason enough, of course.
Ammo will be an issue and you can't hunt with it in most places.

That's more of a curiosoty than a real gun.

It's actually a civil version of a gun developed for law enforcement, that was supposed to be something like a portable grenade launcher, fire tear gas grenades, loads of non-lethal-pellets, and such.

I don't know much about the police side of the matter, except that it was there (there is a livejournal post by an officer who handled one, with pics, I can try to dig up the link if someone's interested).

But the hunting version, as pictured, was in production only for a very short while in the early 1990's, and wasn't very popular.

Lots of people thought they wanted one, but the passion died as soon as they got one to handle.

Apart from being heavy and awkward, it's proofed for the equivalent of average 12 ga 3" loads, so owning one doesn't make much sense, does it?

There wasn't any loaded ammo offered, either, but one could reload the flare gun shells, which incidentally are exactly 4 bore.

Wow I don't know what to say... I want one but i can't think of any use. 25lbs of gun is alot to lug around. Plus the ammo. Could be a fun project to "tinker" with.

Remington Industrial makes 8 guage ammo for their MasterBlaster System. Shoots a 3 ounce slug in a 3.25" cartridge. A light load would be the 2 ounce zinc slug. Haven't a clue if it'll work out of a regular shotgun or how easy it'd be to get. Not likely to be cheap. Listed on their site under Ammunition, then Industrial.
 
8 gauge kiln gun factory ammo is too powerful for use in shotguns. The shells have a shoulder at the rim to prevent chambering in an 8 gauge shotgun. Some reloaders turn the shoulder off of fired kiln gun shells to reuse them.

Shotguns larger than 10 gauge are, of course, not permitted for waterfowl hunting in the US or Canada due to the Migratory Bird Treaty.

^This fellow makes his own firearms to go along with the loads, and developing slug loads is his sole area of study. If someone wants to try too hot loads in their brass framed, damascus barreled, single shot break action antique shotgun, hey nobody twisted their arm, and they will possibly win a DIY "Darwin award". :D

A few reasons for wanting one

1 Sheer crude what the hell are ya gonna do with that factor?

2 Mine will be bigger than yours, period. lol

3 Smartass kids that can shoot "anything"

4 Gophers

5 Just to see what it feels like to launch 1/4 lb of lead in one shot (I am assuming once will be enough to know the feeling.

6 no gun at the trap range, no problem, i brought a spare!!

A toy, plain and simple... The high road 12ga looks impressive, wonder if they ever did a magnum length?

I am wondering what is meant by equal proof to 12ga 3", is that payload vs velocity or pressure wise, one could do alot and stay below 10grand psi pressure, I am thinking 3" is rated for 11,000 if I am not mistaken.
