Here is my re-barrelled 8 gauge remington 812 with some pictures of a stock 12 gauge for scale.

The Brazilian made Remington uses a receiver fabricated from formed plate with welded in pieces.
How did you make it large enough to accept the 8ga barrel?

Mentioned above is a welded in breechplug. If I were in the vicinity, I would be more comfortable with a threaded plug.

The receiver was filed down around the hinge area to allow the wider barrel to fit, and the firing pin part was cut and raised about a 1/4 inch to get the firing pin to line up, then welded and shaped to match the barrel. I used the Remington/CBC receiver because it was the biggest one I could find.

Highly unlikely you'll ever get an 8 ga on a 12 ga receiver. The rim OD is 1.035" vs the .886" of the 12 ga.

The point is that James1234 wants to do it. It's just like restoring a vintage car. Daft as hell for most of us, but so what?

Please note that I edited my previous post to say that it is not realistic to build a 8 guage on a 12 guage frame. I realize that James has actually done it but it looks like it took a fair amount of modification and skill

YOU CAN STILL BUY NEW 8 GAUGE FROM SPAIN. I SAW THEM ADVERTISED SEVERAL YEARS AGO IN AN English SHOOTING MAG. A double was not that expensive then; maybe two thousand dollars. I believe H and H made one 20 years back called the Dinosor, It sold for several hundre thousand.

The 812/CBC receiver is quite a bit bigger and stronger than anything else commonly available, correct me if i'm wrong but i think 10 gauges were built on the same receiver. I got the idea from seeing Ed Hubel use one in one of his FH builds. It did take quite a bit of modification, mostly done with a welder and an angle grinder and some good files.

I imported an 1980s Spanish made Ralph Grant 8 bore from the UK last year, they are not too hard to find there. I got brass hulls from Doug Rayner, plastic hulls from Will Bilozir, and cards and wads from Track of the wolf.
