Nope. There is no leniency, all 8ga shotguns are prohibs now.

There MIGHT be leniency towards antiques - cannons, 2/4/8 bore rifles, etc.

At minimum, you can't be charged for unauthorized possession of firearm for having those (as they are exempt from that section of the criminal code), but I'm not sure if they could be seized or anything like that.

So is a kiln gun a shotgun?
Lots of industrial 8gauges in canada
 
I guess the kiln guns will have to be turned in and exchanged for 10 gauge or 12 gauge 3.5 inch. Like you say they probably have no clue that there is even such a thing as a kiln gun.
 
Hopefully C21 will be history in little more than a year. Meantime, I don't know what the courts can do about old shotguns that have been around for decades, especially when determining legal status is as complicated as is stated here. In the almost impossible event of it becoming an issue, I would just plead ignorance- the courts are used to dispensing justice, not enforcing turdspeak.
 
Couple years ago I tried to import an 8ga muzzleloader and was told by the FFL dealers I talked to that they couldn't export one to canada

Not sure of the truth but since they wouldn't send it I gave up
