8 gauge SxS shotgun

Rare and super expensive. Expect to pay well (very well) upwards of $10,000 for an 8 bore. Assuming you can find one for sale. I doubt there are more than a handfull in Canada.
 
It would be a neat toy but I don't know what you would use it for.

An 8 gauge might make a super waterfowl gun, except IIRC it's illegal to shoot migratory birds with anything bigger than a 10 gauge.

At 15 or so lbs, the 8 gauge will be too heavy to be an upland game gun, and it wouldn't be well suited to trap, skeet, or sporting clays.

As for availability - I've never seen one for sale anywhere. I think you'd need to go custom maker and expect to pay $5000 - $10,000. but that's just a wild guess. I don't think you could adapt a 12 gauge action to 8 gauge because the firing pins on a 12 sxs are too close together to work for 8 gauge barrels. So the action would need to be built from scratch.

The guy at 0:19 is one of the 2 sherrifs, and hes carrying around a double barrelled 8 guage everywhere he goes. Its one of the old mounted ones.
 
I used to shoot an 8 bore ...fun gun but friggin huge 150grs of FFg and 2 1/2 ounces of #4 shot.

I remember my father showing me a used '0' gauge shotshell hull. About the size of a popcan if I remember. I haven't seen it in years. They used to mount them on boats and shoot crocadiles in the Everglades. He wasn't one to kid about firearms. Used to tell me about his collection when he was in his 20's. Almost 50 lever actions in various calibers alone. Boy, I wish he had kept them. Ther were calibers I had never heard of. Somewhere I have a rifle shell made of 'wrapped' brass strip. Commercially made but VERY old.
 
I remember that Tremors movie!
The shells made a distinctive PLOONK sound as they dropped into the chambers :)

Super Rare. The Ammo is next to impossible to find. It would cost you an astronomical amount of $ to both buy it, and shoot it. I read somewhere that there are less than 10 in Canada.
 
I could point you at a British waterfowl forum, ya know that country where guns are band. 8 and even 4 bore guns are almost the norm (oh and the odd punt gun gets used).
While I like my 223 best from the bench, I can only imagine the joys I would receive from bringing down a nice pink footed goose using an 8 bore. :)
 
Well, I was just getting infos, there is a guy in a french forum (extreme precision) that is looking for one. he said his grandfather had one but the shotgun burnt with the house of is GD.....like most of the guys here I can only wish him good luck to find the gun and the money to pay for it!
