Found some norma 196gr hollowpoint jacketed bullets. checked the norma site and they are called the oryx bullet, Can;t really find any load data on them. Has anyone got a norma manual with load data for this?
Thanks in advance Ken

the Oryx is a bonded protected point soft point. Should look like this :

what you have may be the "Vulkan"

I'm sure you would be ok starting with proper 200 gr data for your strength of rifle and working up slowly, might be able to exceed the max by a hair, seeing how the Norma bullet is 4 grains lighter

sorta kinda looks like the vulcan but it is pointier and is a boattail bullet. got to learn how to post pics! they are also a silver colour. They are most likely fairly old cause I got them at an estate sale. I think the new box price sticker sez 14.95

Load for the bullet weight. Who made it doesn't matter. 200 grain data will do.
Mind you, if you can find Norma 203-B powder(unlikely) there's data on Norma's site. Under 8 x 57 JS.
There's data for a 195 grain Hornady SP bullet on Reloaders Nest using Accurate 4350 too

The bullet you have is an older design. The jacket is made of mild steel. [does not hurt your barrel] Norma made these available in many diameters. I still have some in 6.5mm, 270, 7mm and in 30 cal. They are not bonded, but are a conventional type expanding bullet. I like Vihtavuori N150 or N550 for this weight bullet in the 8x57, but one of the 4350's will likely work fine. In a good strong 8x57, these will exit a 24" tube at 2550 or a bit more. I just checked my old Norma loading booklet, and they show 48 grains of old Norma 203 giving 2526. This powder is very close to IMR 4320 in burning rate. These bullets are quite effective on game, and expand reliably. Regards, Eagleye.
