Hello,

Hey guys for my next AR i was thinking about doing up a 80% Lower reciever. Has anyone here had any experiance with it? I would go halfs on a Jig with a buddy and we would both build one. But i was just wondering if anyone here has done it.

Any issues with holes not lining up? Poor quality castings/forgings? Any issues with the registering and the CFC? As far as i know you are allowed to build firearms for personal use,,, so any advice would be appreciated.

But but...real lower receivers aren't all that much. Why do all that machining and then have to finish it with something etc etc when you can buy a receiver for a reasonable price?

simple, i can say i built it 100%, i loved my first AR build and this is the next step, besides once you have the jig, every build there after for oyu and your buds is cheaper, rightnow i have 3 other guys who wnat to do it with me. And i am sure i can get many others interested once i have finished mine

Dlask lists them. AR15plus also lists a Canadian contact on their site. KT ordinance in the US has a 4-piece bolt together unit that is supposed to be less work, but its somewhat expensive.

I've thought it would be an interesting project, but I have trouble swallowing the costs associated with the project.

The main appeal for me is having a lower I can register with my own clever brand and serial number.

As for the question of "Why would you want to do this?" - Its better than watching TV...

Please keep us up-to-date on the project, if you decide to go ahead with it!

Ummm....I bought my 1911 80% from Dlask last year with no problems. That disclamer was always there. And if they have changed their policy then I'm greatly disipointed with them.
 
I recieved an email from Joe a few weeks ago stating his 80% recievers were only for licenced gunsmiths. I was a bit disapointed.
 
Can't you order forgings from the US?

Since they're not firearms parts yet, I imagined it would be simple.

Has anyone built or seen a KT-15B lower from KT ordinance?

In a previous thread, Mark (?) from Questar advised that exporting forgings from the USA requires a US export permit (which they are not likely to grant, certainly not for an individual civilian purchaser).
 
Looking into export permits, but I will talk to Dlask, Right now i am still in the planning stage. I fully intend to register such lower and the last time i checked, once oyu complete a home made gun you have 30 days to register it or change its class/ type of registration (frame only)

never saw one but its a very nice take on the 80% lower all the parts are way wy less then 80% and still it can be put together whit hand tool, i know the pepole at the BATF really dont like them
 
Wow. There must be some anti's lurking the boards that freaked out and made some calls when the discussions about buying 80% forgings (looming ban)was going on. Not cool.

No illegal activities are being discussed, but remember that there are people who would like to see all activities pertaining to firearms made illegal. Just because it's legal now doesn't mean it will stay that way if it makes them nervous.

In half an hour I'm going to make a detour and drop by his shop and ask him and #####-slap him (twice!!) if he gives that answer:p
But, if he says it's BS and he sells forgings or 80% to anyone, then what?:confused: :confused:

30 days is for the happy backyard gunsmith.
Manufacturers have to obey much tighter rules. They have to register right-away, immediately after the frame can be assembled into a firearm, regardless if it's functional (if it can fire) or not.

Slap him once for me too if this is true.

What a load of crap. If it wasn't enough that the antis are trying to make enjoying our hobby impossible, we now have people in our own community helping them. For shame. As long as there is no legal reason to restrict sales why the hell would Mr. Dlask do something like this? Have some new regulations been passed that I am unaware of? If not, and he has just dreamed up this restriction himself......Well, I'll just say I couldn't write in a public forum how I feel about him.:mad:

If this is untrue, I apologize for assuming the worst but I think NaOH and Randall_Flagg have made it pretty clear. I guess Dlask no longer exists as far as me and my money are concerned. His loss for sure.
