80% AR Recievers, Has anyone here Built one?

NaOH,

I was at Dlask shop today to pick up something they ordered for me.

I talked to them and they told me they just made
another run of ar 80 percents.
They said 25% of the run is already gone (back orders).
If you still want one, remember they go fast.
If you have problems again, PM me ASAP
and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Oh, and they also have taps 1-3/16 16tpi in case you are interested;)
I don't know how many and for how long.
It's 100 bucks or so, if you use to chase or to calibrate, they last almost forever, if you cut new thread, they last for at least 60-80 parts.

Cheers

Judging by the other thread NaOH has going, I think he has a lower already.:D

Although nothing says he isn't in the market for another...

Thanks for the heads up, Doc. I'll be visiting Dlask soon to apologise for assuming the worst about his sales policy and of course pick an 80% up. If there are any left that is...

Shooter.........Same jig I have and it works great. You're right in that Justin gives great customer service.

Keep in mind that there are several places that should be measured and marked before mounting in the jig and drilling.

1. Front pivot pin detent hole
2. rear take down pin detent
3. Selector detent
4. Stock index hole
5. pistol grip hole (very important)
6. Buffer stop plunger hole

For these holes, once they are marked they should be center punched before mounting. There are no guide holes in the jig for these points.

I have my lower drilled and stamped w/ser # and will finish engraving tonite or tomorrow. Grit blasting tomorrow as well.

When drilling use lots of cutting oil, especially on the buffer tube area(you'll need it). Also you are going to have to remove some material from the fire control pocket and the rear takedown lug pocket by about .030" in each case. You can do this using an end mill or a dremel type tool with a sanding drum. You will also need calipers to ensure accuracy.

Some of the websites say you can do this in 2-3 hours working straight through. I suppose so if you have all the right equipment and good drill bits. I only have a bench top drill press (good bits though), lots of time and patience. Start to finish took about 4 hours.

Take your time and it'll turn out great.

I do have a complete set of instructions that I could pass on to those who might be interested. They are for using the Baxter Jig setup and not Justins. These instructions do however give valuable advice on completeing 80% lowers no matter which jig you use.

Since these instructions are copywrited I can't sell them or send copies through the mail. For those that may be seriously interested in completing an 80% I will email them to you. In what format I have no idea. I'll just scan them in and work from there.

Have fun shooter, I sure did.:dancingbanana:

what is the best way you have found for getting the buffer threads on straught?

If you use a drill press as I did, do the following.

The buffer is nominally bored to a 1" diameter when you get it. Clamp the receiver in a drill press vise and center it under the chuck that has a 1" bit. When the buffer and 1" bit are perfectly aligned clamp the vise to the drill press table so there is absolutely no movement. Ream the buffer out with a 1 1/8" Silver and Deming bit. Use lots of cutting oil.

Place the 1 3/16" tap into the buffer and start by hand. I use a level placed on top of the tap at this point to ensure it is travelling vertically. Use a large crescent wrench to make small turns and adjust the tap as necessary. Once the threads start to bite, keep checking the level. After maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn, the tap should be going in straight.

It can be a bit tricky but if you take your time you'll do fine.

This operation is way easier if you have access to a milling machine.

HI all..

I don't post much, however I have dealt with many of you on a positive basis.. I thought I would put out a at positive note for the Canadian rep for Ar15 plus.. I have ordered stuff from John many a time and have always received what I requested.... I just spoke to John about this thread and was very surprised that his business practise was brought into question.. It is unfortunate anytime that someone is displeased with service from any industry. I personaly beleive John to be and upfront and honest individual . I encourage anyone to contact him with there questions or concerns at 604-690-3069.. John has given me permission to post his number so that those with concerns will find answers... this was not a paid ad for John ,nor do I or will I receive anything for it.. I just wanted to add a little balance to this thread..

I wouldn't deal with he AR15plus guy- his Canadian contact took my buddies money and disappeared shortly thereafter. Apparently AR15plus wasn't helpful in getting it resolved...

I know your comment is a complete farce as I do business with john regularly. I have mentioned this matter to him and he tells me you should have your friend call him, as he never recieved any funds for nothing he does not have in stock, he is a totally stand up guy and for you to come on here and bash him is totally a low ball thing to do. I think you must of been the customer that called him for those AK reciever flats and john said he would not sell to you as they are for Making prohibited firearms which is illegal for you to do, AND YOU PROBABLY GOT PISSY ABOUT IT.Anyways , for someone hiding under a internet name making claims about john is quite cowardly, I am a firearms dealer also and under these circumstances I know as of this day your friend has done anything about contacting him and trying to resolve this supposed run off with the money deal. As for pricing of lowers they can be more or less depending on which grade you choose which is different than DLASK. Here are his prices and you can compare. Here are johns prices for the 80% lowers to help those who wish to purchase them.

Ceramic Matrix- $139.00
Grade JFM - $165.40
Grade cast investment - $116.80
Grade HPS - $177.40
Bronze - $232.00
50cal - $160.00
Titanium - $368.80
Raw Forging- $53.14

To be fair, apparently my buddy did get his parts eventually- like two weeks ago when he ordered and paid back (IIRC) in October. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't think it would take that long to ship for "in stock" items. On the up side, they looked very nice, well made etc... and I may have ordered one myself if not for his experience.

Anyway asshat, I never said I had personally dealt with him, or that he had ripped me off. I did relate a less than satisfactory experience that a friend of mine had while dealing with this individual. No communication after repeated emails etc.... and the guy at AR15plus saying he was also unable to contact him(emails I saw with my own eyes). I dont think it would have been an issue at all if john had been upfront at the beginning and told him it was going to take a couple of months, instead of taking the money and then not returning emails. Not somebody I'd deal with anyway, and as CGN is a fairly small community, people often post about bad deals to protect others from the same happening to them.

As far as the AK flat thing goes, I am well aware the AK series is prohibited. Your completely unfounded accusation makes it pretty clear the caliber of your personality. Again, I made no unfounded accusations (unlike yourself), just reported another persons experience with you buddy and YOU GOT PISSY ABOUT IT. Grow up.

Minor footnote- I notice your good buddy is no longer listed as the canadian distributor for ar15plus.

ETR- some foul language, I don't cotton to being called a liar by some internt tough guy
