Just wondering from the guys who like to shoot 223's, if you had good luck with these bullets...

I really like shooting the 223 at steel during the warmer times of the year and awhile back I screwed up and bought a 9t shilen barrel for my savage. Now Im thinking of getting a new barrel to shoot something a lil heavier and was l looking at these 80's.

thx

I used them last year. Don't really have any basis for saying how good they are. They definitely load long, won't fit them in an AR magazine.

You're on the right tract Titch

I've been running 223 heavies for a long time.... but...You might want to PM manitou for more tips… he's the ultimate 223 heavy guy. He likes the 90 grainers these days. I don't run anything heavier than 80 myself.

You'll need a 1:7 throated as long as possible for the 75-80s. I have one rifle that jams the lands at 2.6" OAL and an RPR that jams at 2.5" OAL

at 500 yards I'm running Hornady 75 grain ELDs out of the RPR at 1 MOA flatter than 175s in my 308.

I like the RPR in 223 because I can mag feed 2.5" long rounds from an AI mag, but you can set up a Rem 700 the same way. You cant mag feed long rounds from a Tikka for example... so that blows.

I shoot the 69 TMK's (winter, best round for yotes for me) and the 70 RDF's (summer) right now and stretch them out as far as they can go already. Just looking to try out a higher BC bullet for the better wind deflection down range. And these 80's are cheaper to buy then the sierra's and nosler's that Im using now.

A year ago I made a post about getting a barrel to shoot the 90's and a few people jumped in on that, but never got a barrel for it as I decided to move up to the 308 instead and got that. So I think manitou was involved in that.

Another reason Im looking at the ELDM 80's is, because down the road Im also looking at putting together a 22 hotrod for coyotes and was hoping to use this same bullet with that rig. So I do have a few ideas rollin around up in this madness. lol

cheers
