858 in 6.5 grendal

One in my cabinet right now. Had it done a month or so before Christmas but have not had a chance to do any real testing yet.

One problem we have encountered with this conversion and the one we did with an SKS is that all factory ammo, that we have seen at least, are loaded with small primers. The firing pin holes in the breach faces of guns chambered in 7.62 x 39mm are huge and the small primers do not have enough support on the breach face so are more often than not punctured and you get a lot of crap in the action as well as erode the firing pin and bolt face.

If one used resized 7.6x 39mm brass with large primers then the primers are supported and you don't get the blow through you encounter with small primers.

Small primered brass as used in 220 Russian and 6PPC was done to enhance ignition consistancy and ultimately accuracy.
6.5 Grendel in an 858 sounds like lipstick on a pig - akin to dropping a 302 in a pinto.
Is there benefit to such a contraption, or is it a case of ‘because we can’?

Dont matter what the pigs wearing when you can only see the back of it

Except in this case I very much doubt the 858 can make use of the Grendel’s performance and inherent accuracy.

might try machining open a couple cases to take the large primer. might be to much work to tho
