858 mags are AK-47 mags?

So I play a few videogames, some of which are trying really hard to be realistic.

I like this one because its the first one that's let me use elevation turrets, rangefinders and co-witness sights. Even if the voices are a little wonky.

The Czech special forces are in here, which is kind of cool. And of course they are equipped with various versions of the CZ 858. BUT it seems to take the same magazines as the kalashnikov family.

Is this true? I know they're the same caliber (usually) and similar appearances, but are the magazines identical? It is awful handy in-game to be able to grab extra mags from a guerilla weapons cache.
 
AK and VZ mags look similar, take the same caliber, but that is it. They are completely different in design and are not interchangeable.

Thing about Video games, is they rather go for cool effects, rather then truth. So unfortunately thats where a lot of young people get their "knowledge".

Wow! I love the internet. A guy comes to a group of people most likely to have the answer to his question. (which is a valid question i might add) and he gets flamed. So the guy plays a video game... big deal! I play video games too. as do many of our members. At least he didn't come here making statements of fact based on what he's learned in a game. But FYI... I take .357 to the chest all day every day. they only tickle you know!
 
oh come on...you have to admit it doesn't make one sound like a genius when starting a post by saying "so i saw this in a video game, is it true??"

Indeed, the question is a valid one, but its just funny that it became a question BECAUSE of a video game. thats all.
 
you'd be surprised how many young people have been introduced to this sport BECAUSE of video games. It's not like it was years ago where responsible use of firearms was just another fact of life. I welcome any newcomer with any question no matter how ridiculous. because I remember a time when i had ridiculous questions, and i'm sure i'll have more questions in the future. don't flame the noobs... you're just teaching them that's it's ok to flame noobs. one day people just won't bother starting, for fear of being mocked.

Not really, he saw something and wondered if it was true or not. The media, video games, tv shows, movies, even gun "experts" have invalid info and all he was doing was seeing if it had any truth behind it.

Now, if he argued "AK mags and VZ mage are the same thing,I learned that in a video game" and refused to accept he was wrong then we could flame him lol.

We should be more forgiving to the video game crowd. As now a days this is most young people first exposure to firearms. If we help them in correcting their incorrect info, they may be willing to take up real shooting, and we have more numbers.
 
Same caliber, looks close enough, but no go buddy. I still love playing Black ops with my 8 year old and I am turning 40 this year. I am disappointed with some attitudes on CGN with new people. I love the EE it still is awesome but the open forums are losing points with me almost daily now.
 
You guys make valid points. But i still think its funny :p.
My original post might have sounded disdainful, and for that i apologize.

i was never a videogame type of guy, even being from the videogame generation... maybe thats why...

This is why I post here instead of on Alberta Outdoorsman forum. They all would of laughed at me there; but only some of you guys do! :p

I think its interesting because the game (Arma 2) does market itself as a simulation, and its industrial version VBS2 is used by the Canadian Forces for training.

The gaming world is full of rediculousness. Even the idea that "full-auto" is the default way all soldiers use their weapons. But I like the idea that some of them are trying to do better.

Don't flame someone who asks a weird but legitimate question.I don't think any of us started out as firearm experts?
