858's not being imported any more?

having owned an 858 i will not cry that its not available anymore, poor craftsmanship on the rifle plus the non chrome barrel made it lesser than even the cheapest ak. the type 81 will be much better

Such a short sighted comment that I had to reply... So... You're okay with the RCMP & CBSA arbitrarily seizing & then deeming prohibited a shipment of firearms, all the while NOT releasing to the importer WHY? Not to mention threatening & placing under investigation the importer?

My my, what a world we live in, all because you don't like the 858 platform... Unreal! And the perfect example as to why the Shooting Sports in Canada are doomed! No one stands up for each other!!!

I am NOT okay with how this stuff is playing out! Transparency should be the order of the day! Not to mention fair & common sense gun law, which we most certainly DO NOT HAVE at this point!

Frack!

Regards
Jay

Yep, our biggest downfall is the fact that firearm owners will at a whim throw others under the bus because "I ain't got one o' dem rifles and dun wanna get one so i dun care." I don't want to get a Kel Tec SU 16 but I'd be just as bothered by the RCMP's actions and lack of transparency, or well, complete absence of such, had this happened with those. Or the type 81 for that matter ahem Daniel.

Well said Jay .

"If" this is all true then the escape hatch fee from Red Rifle Romance to Black Rifle Heaven
just increased dramatically. Famae 542 is a big step up in $$$, I doubt the proletariat
Red Rifles Crew can afford this so they are now trapped for life on this forum,
game over F-cksticks.

You said it perfectly Jay. Perhaps that's their new gun control strategy. To prevent what they don't like like from coming into Canada so nobody gets them. Which guns or parts are next?

If wolverine is indeed making a calculated loss and "taking one for the team" by choosing to handle this situation in a way that picks the lesser of two evils, as it seems. Then I'm very impressed. Wolverine is one of the few vendors out there who have done a lot for the firearms community over the yrs and kept the big picture in mind. Lets make an effort to keep these guys in business. I would also like to echo his urge to get politically active at the grass roots level. Anti's love nothing more than to discredit a vendor by calling "them merchants of death" and willing do put public safety at risk to make a buck. We the user/consumer need to get active to make firearms owner ship a right. A right to firearm that can only be removed if proven guilty of an act of parliament. Focusing on each and every firearms future right now is pointless. We need a solid foundation to stand on. And that solid foundation is a written law that recognizes equality of citizen and state to own firearms. A vendors ability to make a difference only extend so far due to the fact they make a profit off of firearms. Nothing wrong with that, its just anything they say is easy for politicians to dismiss as bias. Get out there people.

This is what brought in bill C-68 not the Antis. When faced with a challenge we didn't unite as we should. Shame on you. This attitude has done more damage to the community than anything else.

We're behind you wolverine. Nothing pisses me off like wankers who don't stand up for other shooters. You think it's funny now but if the AR was on the table you would piss your Barbie panties and want people to care.
Thanks for the support champ !

So is it still safe to take these out and shoot? Nothing has been made official, its all just speculation right?

The way I understand it is that the rifle is still non-restricted, so you can take it deer/boar hunting. Some rifles in a shipment were supposedly problematic so the shipment was stopped and turned back. The importer just didn't wanna go through the hassle again, whether it's because the vendor was shady, the RCMP was playing dirty or a combination of both. If you already got it, you have a non-restricted rifle that you can enjoy anywhere it's legal to shoot.

Wow that is BS. We as Canadians need to stand up and stop this crap. How many rifles in the last 6 months have been "looked at, reclassified, and threatened" by the RCMP. They are coming for our guns.. one at a time. If we don't stop it they will take one at a time from us until we have nothing left.

You've been bashing 858 for as long as I've been coming to this forum, you could have gotten a bad one. Frankly my 858 is the most reliable I have, and I have some rifles that are 4 to 5 times more expensive. reliability is absolutely not their problem.

It being lesser than the cheapest ak is a stupid comment as we're not allowed aks here and we will never be allowed aks here. Why don't you compare it to a RPG too and tell us how much an RPG obliterates everything better than an 858.

Tell me your favorite gun please, and i'm not even going to get into the whole type 81 Chinese crap made by worker slaves, and I'll come and find the one guy in the world out there that has a bad quality run of that rifle and he'll tell you how crappy it is.

All the reviews online favor the 858 as a well built extremely reliable firearm, yet you're out here telling us it's horrible. I just dont get it. Yes it has the gremlin issues, but those are known issues.

God enough with this nonsense..

How would he know if it's "lesser than the cheapest ak" ? How many AK's has he owned ?

What a garbage post. I could go on but I guess there is always that 1 guy around and everyone already knows whats up with him.

Hah, Add to that how many type 81's has he owned?

How would he know if it's "lesser than the cheapest ak" ? How many AK's has he owned ?

Having owned neither, based on what I heard from people who owned both, the 858 is better-built than most AK's and overall a better gun. The reason I'd still go with an AK had it been possible is due to the massive aftermarket and its rich history.
