I'm trying to replace the "Action Bar Lock" on my Rem 870. I can't figure it out. It's held in by a pin that's the same size on both ends (one end looks like a rivet, the other just a flat head). Tried tapping it out, but doesn't seem to do anything.

Any ideas?

The action bar lock is held in by the hammer pin. The right side is swaged over and like you said is like a rivet.

To revove it, drill the swaged over head off and then push it out. Installation requires a new pin.

May I ask why do you want to replace the action bar lock? I have never yet seen one buggered.

Son of a b*tch! You think they would supply a new pin with the action bar lock then!? Sheesh.

I had to take a dremmel to it to make my 12.5" Dlask barrel work on my 3.5" Super Mag. Worked great with the Dlask barrel, but seems very unsafe with the stock barrel back on there. Dlask barrel is gone, so need to get it back to stock.

I have the replacement. Looks like I'll be ordering the pin now too.

It would be easier to weld the end up and reshape it... just trace it out on paper first to give you a rough idea after welding it up.

I got it installed. Was able to crush the end of the pin with vice grips a bit and tap it out. Crushed it more in the vice when it was out to make it nice and round and straight. Pushed it back in with my finger, put the washer back over, used the vice to press in a countersink bit to spread it back out, works like a champ!

Bolt/action bars lock up nice and tight now :D.

Thanks for the info!
