OK, I am the first one to admit I do not know shotguns. I know they are fun to shoot. I am very into military/law enforcment types of firearms, they are just so bloody cool.

Now, I want a Tactical shotgun. I want an M4 type stock, with a rail, and a lot of stuff that have no reason (I am the type of man that loves loud bangs and fireworks, yes I am 5 deal with it)

So I talk to my buddy and he know quite a bit. He a deep 870 fan, like deep. He has 6 of them. Now I looked at Mossberg and even KRAL (but no one can tell me how they do). Again, most people say you can't beat that one solid steel block reciever of the 870.

Now where I ask you to help me: I love building s**t. I am looking at the 870 Express synthetic 18". Why? Well, I want a short barrel. I want to add all kinds of wonders to this, but then I read this little blurb on their site "
The Model 870™ Express® is intended for personal use and will not accept law enforcement accessories". Does this mean I can't put stuff on it? Do I have to go with a different 870? PLEASE HELP, I AM IGNORANT ON THIS.

I don't know why the site says that you can't add to your 870. My Express just got a new stock and side saddle, and the company also carries rails for it.

The gear I got is from Mesa Tactical, and it is very well made. You can get it from Daves Surplus and Tactical, a site sponsor. If you order from them, state that you're a CGN member, include your screen name and you get a 10% discount. Nice.

Here's my toy:

I bought an 870™ Express® a couple of days ago. I already have a Fab front handguard and a side saddle shell carrier on it. You can indeed customize it to what you want. The 870 is a good solid gun and is lots of fun to shoot. I just wish I would have kept my police model with the 14" barrel.

Send EMT for $79.99 to nutzeasy@gmail.com and I will flip a switch here to allow you to Policerize you Express.

Seriously, it's really only a conspiracy. All that needs to be done is to flatten the little divets in the magazine tube under the barrel ring and you'll be able to add an extension to your tube. Everything else is cake. Or is it pie.

Good on you. Build to your hearts content. There are lots of components that will tacticalize your Policerized 870er. More for a REM 870 than any other gun.

:D

I was thinking the dimples/divets also. The 870 express synthetic 7 shot or express tactical would solve the dimple issue.

2 good base guns to start with:
Express synthetic 7 round

Or
Express tactical (I'd choose this one personally)

I bought the 870 express synthetic 7 shot one (I think it is called the home defense model at some places). It is good, no dimples, they also change the stock, it is the same one as the tactical one, both the fore and butt.

It is what I am using in my avatar, you can see it if you have zoom vision.

Thanks for the replies.

Yet I have another inquiry. I wanted to buy the Desert Camo Rem 870... mostly because of this choke. Can I attach it to any 870?

if you get the stock barrel threaded for chokes, yup, you can!

stock 870 expresses with 18.5" barrels (other than the tactical) have cylinder bore barrels, so no threads to attach the choke.

It will fit any 870 barrel that is threaded for chokes. That is why I suggested the 870 express tactical. It has an 18" barrel that is threaded for chokes and comes with the choke in that picture. Of course it is totally up to you, its your gun.

LeBarons prices: (if they have one in stock)

Express synthetic 7 shot $429.00
Express tactical $499.00

I am sure many other stores could get them. Or try contacting some of the site sponsors.

Again thank you for the help.

If I go with the tactical am I paying ~$100 for a threaded barrel? (cuz i would get the 18" at gobles maybe and its only $369 there) seems a little much (but I know ill kick myself for not having that cool choke)

Look around for a better price, I sure it will varry. I just posted that to give an idea of the price difference between the two.

The price of the choke separately is about $65+ (i bought one), plus the cost to have a short barrel threaded about $75+. (just a guess bassed on hourly shop rate)

The choice depends on your budget, your build time line and you wants or need for accessories. If you really don't want the threaded barrel or chokes, you can spend the money on other things you want more. You can always change your mind and get the parts later.

Keep your eyes peeled on the Shotgun Exchange Forum and find a bare bones for cheap and build it from there. Why buy new ... there are plenty of deals to be had here and probably of better functioning guns than what they sell new these days.

For now take your time and ask questions. Don't rush it. Educate yourself, look at lots photos of what others have done and decide on what you like most. Believe me, it won't be your first 870 and you'll definately change things around when you get bored with the set ups you do decide on. :p

Lots of shotgun gurus here who know their stuff and I'm sure they'll steer you in the right directions.

Don't forget to send money. OK. :p

^thats the express tactical with the upgraded XS ghost ring sights and rail?

Sure is...she cuts down trees like a knife through butter and clay targets are a breeze to breeze through...sold my .17 HMR to pay for it, alls I want to do with it is get a 6 shot side saddle and a OD green sling and I'm set to kill zombies and other 'things'.

I agree with what easy siad too. (not that my opinion is any more important. many better people on here than me.) No need to rush and the EE had some good deals. just giving my point of view.

just to give an idea of the costs:

The cost of my build is this: (including taxes)
New 870 super mag turkey: 372.84
Used hogue short LOP stock/forend and messa side saddle: 160.00
Used remington short barrel with threaded rem choke: 150.00
New remington +3 mag tube extension: 84.75
New remington tac choke: 72.96

Total: $840.55 (if i sold the original stock and barrel to recover some of the cost the total would drop to $630.55)

The cost if the express tactical:

new express tactical: 563.87
New Remington Short barrel threaded rem choke: $0.00 (inclded)
Used hogue short LOP stock/forend and messa side saddle: 160.00
New remington +3 mag tube extension: 0.00 (included)
New remington tac choke: 0.00 (included)

total: $723.87 (if i sold the original stock to recover some of the cost the total would drop to $663.87)

The cost of the desert recon:

New desert recon: 836.19
New Remington Short barrel threaded rem choke: $0.00 (inclded)
Used hogue short LOP stock/forend and messa side saddle: 160.00
New remington +3 mag tube extension: 0.00 (included)
New remington tac choke: 0.00 (included)

total: $996.19 (if i sold the original stock to recover some of the cost the total would drop to $936.19)

Thing to note are:
1) the express tactical was not yet available when I started my build
2) the desert recon was more than I wanted to spend in one shot and I wanted black finish.
2) Mine is a super mag, there are currently no super mag 870 tacticals offered from remington.
